Default Which ITR drivers have squared off against a GS-(T,X)? Or any info on a match up?

I have a stock ITR with an AEM CAI, and have taken a stock GS-T on the highway before. But today I got smoked pretty bad for starting too push it after he took off first. We did it a few times, but never started side by side. When I had to start like right behind him, droping it to 3rd at 80 mph couldnt help me. He just kept pulling away each time. Eventually he got at least 5 car lengths ahead of me and there was no time for catch up since there was traffic ahead. I did manage to pull up next to him and asked what he had. You can tell his car was fixed up cause of all the extra gauges he had, even though there wern't any decals. He said it was turbo, but was it an aftermarket turbo? Or a GS-(T)(x)? So those experts out there, are the base model Eclipses with an aftermarket turbo faster than the factory turbos? And how does an ITR match up against a stock turbo? stock turbo with add ons? aftermarket turbo with add ons? Info is appreciated and Yes, I know a stock ITR isn't invincible.

Stock, the GS-T(X) should be close to the ITR, i can't say with any certainty which is quicker. But like all turbocharged cars, a few mods and they will fly. Both stock turbos with add ons and aftermarket turbos can get crazy numbers.

ok Fei Long (0352), I have had some gsx/ gst encounters...

Stock vs. stock we supposedly have the upper hand on these cars. However, I don't see too many "stock" ones around.

First encounter with one was a local silver one driven by gsxgirl. She ran a 13.6 to my eventual 14.9 when i was bone stock. Whipped my azz. lol

Next one was on the freeway, and a gst with mods pulled slightly on me through 3rd and part of 4th... Oh well. I've got some mods now, so maybe I'll have some better races in the future against these cars. Definitely made me respect dsm's more. Before I ignorantly thought they were crap. You could say I learned my lesson.

Agreed Black R,

Had respect for them before. I have a friend who has one and knew chances of losing to one fixed up, but not by much. Oh well, I lost DAMN!!!!!!!! lol......And I'll remember to change that advatar by tomorrow.

Don't worry, run the GS-T or X on a road course, no match for the R!

Friend had a stock GSX and we use to run all the time. He was awesome off the line but after that I would reel him in and pass him with ease. Never ran a GST from a roll as of yet.

I rolled w/ a GS-T starting at 60mph. I took it up to 135mph and had almost 2 cars on him. I'm not sure if he was stock or not

I went up and drag against a GST n a GSX in one night at a local street race. Both of them took off on me since there all wheel drive but my R catches up halfway to 2nd and eventually beat em' on 3rd.

Eclipses are decent cars. Like most turbo cars, little mods will bring many gains. I personally have beaten gsts of all types. A stock type r with intake will probably beat a gst until the gst gets some more boost in those stock turbos. My friend has a bone stock gst w/ 3" downpipe and cat-back and can beat stock itr's pretty bad, however I'm the only one he cannot beat. I'm still keeping the ITRs on top with my own boost. So there's always someone out there to reclaim a victory for one that's lost. -.

$1000.00 in modifications and you won't keep up, they just responded extremely well to modifications. No offense meant to anyone.

those damn things have a compression ratio of 8:1. They can really turn the boost up. Its not rare to see them around here running 20-25psi at the track. Add external wastegate, upgraded down pipe and some fuel mods, they can easily run 12's. There are more dsm owners into performance than rice so if you race one that appears stock, if it beats you, don't feel bad cause it probably isn't. 1/4 mile racing, type r should edge it out near the end (this is stock for stock of course) but off the line (stop light to stop light) they should kill the type r. On the highway (again stock for stock) the itr should have the upper hand. They do have major reliability issues, especially with their drivelines and crankwalk.

Stock vs Stock, my money is on the ITR on the highway racing at high speed. I have taken out my fair share of GSX's on the highway. But street racing, I think the GSX will win. Anything with an after market turbo will give the ITR a run for it's money.

Stock vs Stock off the line, the GSX will have the upper hand...

Stock vs Stock while rolling, the ITR should victor...

I have a freind that has a 1st gen Eclipse t/charged motor in a 90' (i think) Dodge Colt. At this time he has stock internals, bigger turbo, and a HUGE Spearco intercooler and is putting 427 HP to the ground. 427 HP was on 20psi and running a 1.6 ECU. He needs a 2.0 ECU.

I have another buddy with a dirty 98' GSX that should be running low 11's or high 10's this summer runnig 35psi, built motor, maybe 50 shot, and new tranny. This past summer he hit 101mph in the 1/8 mile on stock internals with cams.

he wouldn't be hitting 101 in the 1/8 mile at a local track in st. pete, braking area on this track is almost to short for a stock gsr. Not only would the lower elevation get him going faster but damn, he'd half to hit the brakes before he got to the line.

I've raced my buddies 97 Talon AWD a bunch of times at the track. He beat me everytime. Crushed me out of the hole, (1.9 60 ft times on street tires) all I could do was to try and reel him in, but I never had enough time to catch him

For $200, he went from the upper 14's to high 13's. That's how cheap it is to make those DSMs much faster!

Yeah, once you start modding those cars they really respond well. Like coquinn said, with only $1000 that car is pushing 300hp. Stock they do about a 15.0-15.4 (GSX-GST), with mods though, 11's are fairly easy. The big problem they have is reliability. Their trannies just can't handle the extra stress.

So while you may not win now, you can take pleasure knowing that yours will be running strong long after his is dead and gone

[QUOTE]Yeah, once you start modding those cars they really respond well. Like coquinn said, with only $1000 that car is pushing 300hp.

one of the easiest cars to make go fast, at least the gsx. the gst will almost always run into traction problems when boost kicks in. downpie, test pipe and exhaust these cars can be deadly. i think the intercooler gives this car like 30-40hp(dont quote me).
i got two friends with tese cars and know two others that have big mods on there cars, one runs mid-low 12's and the other hit like 11.80 this summer(awd both). but my two friends, one has a T and the other a X. T is running 15.0(hehehe=im running 15.1 in a ls with gsr swap and still got the ls tranny). the X when it was tuned had a best of 12.8, but it runs like now.

Stock they do about a 15.0-15.4 (GSX-GST), with mods though, 11's are fairly easy. The big problem they have is reliability. Their trannies just can't handle the extra stress.

and these times are true and not true. it all depends on the driver, my friend with the X ran 14.7 stock, the one with the T(hehehe) it dont really matter(hahaha).

and also these cars are not dependable at all, the T owner already replaced one tranny with only like 55,000 miles on it. and they stay at the dealership for recalls. they go thru clutches like chicks with a box max-pads.

I've taken out a GST with some mods and a GSX driven by 2 honeys....

The one time I smoked a GST

i got pulled over and they gave me a Careless driving ticket

but I went to court and won...

no more street racing for me though
