What Motor
its really only a question you can answer.
How fast do you want to go?
what motor fits your budget?
what extra parts are you going to need to go with the motor of your choice?
those are some of the questions you should ask yourself.

if i could do it over again...and i started with a crx instead of my 90 si hatch...i'd do a mini-me conversion and focus in suspension...or in fact...if i had a crx si, i'd just get a full suspension upgrade...they're pretty fast cars already, if the motor is in decent shape. a couple of my friends (and i'm sure many ht-members) have easily hit mid 15's with their crx si's...if you have an hf, its even easier to hit low drag et's. if you want an all out acceleration monster on a budget, turbocharge a sohc non-vtec a6...if you want a daily driver with decent performance and no smog worries, stick with a stock a6...unless you know someone or get lucky, b16's will probably be out of your price range...b18a's are ok too, but depending on which model you're starting from, and how much money you will want to invest on speed in the future, they'll probably be just a little less expensive as a b16....1500=hf intake manifold+a6 motor+pistons+junkyard turbo from a starion/eclipse+piping for turbo+intercooler from any 80's turbo+86-89 integra ecu+a little left for extra goodies

Well, considering you only have $1500, you can't afford a B-series, so that's out of the question.
I'm assuming you have a D15B2 or D15B6 already. For complete engine swaps, a D16A6, a SOHC/DOHC ZC, or a SOHC VTEC D-series are the only options within your budget. Make sure to use an Si transmission, because the shorter Si gearing makes a significant difference in acceleration.
If you have a D15B2 and don't feel like swapping the entire engine, you could do an MPFI conversion, and then you'll have the options of doing a Mini-Me swap and/or piecing together a junkyard turbo kit. An Si transmission is again a "must-have."
Lots of ways to go. Use the search next time.
