Gel coat bumper?
I'm starting to create a show car out of my 95 civic, so flame me but this car will be kept up great and for show purposes only. I bought a rear bumper from Versus Motorsports. The bumper is polyfiber and gel coated. I'm new to that kind of stuff, so does anyone out there know what polyfiber is and what is gel coat? How do you prep something with a gel coat?
I have no clue what it all means either, but I think that you may find more and better help in the cosmetic forum since theyve got some really nice cars, they may know how to go about it.. I hope Ive helped..
polyfiber is just fiberglass and the gell coat is the coating that makes the bumper smooth.......to prep you have to sand the bumper and prime it before painting
You can get colored gelcoat and apply this to a mold before glassing in it. The fiberfil is most likely just blown fiberglass (they apply the fiberglass resin and mat in a spray out of a spray gun) and its the meat of the bumper, and the gelcoat gives it the painted look w/o actually painting it and allows it to be pulled from the mold as a mostly finished piece. In this case though, yes, just sand/prime/paint.
