Default 97/98 vs 00/01 ITR intake cams

Yes, yes I did a search but didnt find the answer Im looking for.

Does anyone have the specs for each cam? How much more power will the 00/01 cams make over the 97/98? Just 2-3 HP or 5-6+?

I might be getting a set of 97/98 ITR cams as payment for doing some engine work and am wondering if its worth replacing the intake cam with a 00/01 spec.

How do you know they even make more power? Last I heard nobody could even prove there's any difference between the 97 and 00 cams other than the part number. Even if there is a difference I doubt it would be big enough to justify using the 00 cam. If you really want to change it use a CTR cam, but even then what's the point of spending $$$ for 3 degrees duration?

Your Wrong it has been proved

you will make 2-3 in the midrange i would think, and a little up top, if it costs you alot to do it, dont

the 00 cams are copies of the CTR cams. frank posted a pic of one. he traced the vtec lobe and compared it to a ctr cam. they were the exact same, which means about 2-3 hp over the 97 itr's. i would just go ahead and scoop up the 97's from your friend if you can get them for a good deal

00/01 has 2 degrees more duration than 97/98 (and CTR has 3 degrees more duration than 97/98). I would say more like 2-3hp difference than 5-6hp, always depends on the particular engine tho.

Remember as well that the 00/01 engines come equiped with different intake springs!

Stiffer ones? It goes to show all the developments I missed by not checking the board for a few months. Maybe I should have picked up the 00 cam when I got my motor blueprinted. <kicking myself in the ***> Well, there's always the next rebuild...

Hmm...it looks from the picture like the lift is the same...but the CTR/01 ITR cam lobe is fatter (therefore more duration?)

I agree, but it could just be the angle of the picture.

Is this the beginning of an urban legend? No disrespect for the person that did that crude tracing test but it's exactly just that...crude.

No I don't but I don't have full scientific nor technical proof to agree.

I am sure this is an urban legend. I think someone mentioned before how they were told the CTR intake cam is much more aggressive and will improve their performance over a stock ITR intake cam. Again, as someone mentioned there is only a slight difference in the duration, that's it. The pictures posted above are cool and all, but we are talking about things that need to be measured with a micrometer, not with paper and a pen. I mean how wide is the head on the pen, that traced the cam, how is the hand positioned........? The list could go on. I personally don't believe there is any difference.

I thought someone on this bord had put CTR cams in to an ITR and claimed they felt good gains. I believe it was MiraiZ. Ask him.

I just don't believe it. A 3 degree difference in the duration is not going to do hardly anything for you, especially something noticable. However, I have heard from several people that claim differently. I still don't buy it though...

BTW, here is a good resource for cam information:
