I turn the key, and it takes a couple of seconds for the car to crank. It usually cranks right away.
Teg is coming up on 100k miles as well, so timing belt and other maitenence are in order, but is it the starter, spark plugs, or what?

usually prolonged cranking time caused by incorrect timing......get the timing gun and check the timing......only after that you can be 100 shure the problem is something else...
Clarify...
You turn the key & get NOTHING for a couple seconds? Then the starter cranks? If so, it's probably a flaky ignition switch. Or maybe a problem with the starter interlocks. Manual or automatic?
You turn the key, the starter runs immediately, but the engine doesn't start right away? That's like Oleg says, or maybe a fuel pressure problem.

do you mean it takes a couple of seconds for the car to start or for it to start cranking.
