Default I want to AutoX but I have no idea where to start?

Ok here's the deal I live in Towson, MD and own a 1990 Integra LS. I have modified the suspension and really want to race. I don't really know where to start? Auto crossing? I figure the SCCA but what class? Where? How do I get involved? When are the seasons? What can I modify what can't I? Is there anything in my area or do I need to travel to VA and NC to race? Thanks a-lot I'm really clueless to the real racing scene but desperately want to get involved...

Give www.autocrossers.org a try for some closer-by events. Also check www.nasaracing.net for some excellent, yet farther away events.

try scca.org or scca.net - i can't remember which one is the actual main website for scca. on their main website, you will find the listing for all the regions and contact persons to get you started. you could also find the rules on line about what you can and can not do you your car and what each thing makes your car eligable for. good luck.

Next to the Ben Franklin Bridge in Camden, NJ right behind the Rutgers Campus.

Registration opens at 8am.
Tech c& Registration closes at 9:30am SHARP!!! DONT Be LATE!!!
Novice Walk throughs at 9:20am
First car off at 10am

The day runs in A/B heats. If you run in A you work for B and vice versa. Then for the afternoon you do the same thing again. Usually done by 2/3pm. Last year they gave out glass mugs. Dress warm you can be out on the course for a good hour and it gets cold out by the waterfront.

These are all the dates:
Jan 26 Camden

Feb 9 Camden

March 9 Camden

March 23 Camden

April 6 Camden

Go to SCCA home page http://www.scca.org My SCCA region, Alabama http://www.alscca.org , has some good links on it about class rules. There was a big reshuffle in Solo 2 this year as to classes. You may be in street prepared depending on your suspension mods.

Depending on the weather Saturday, I might stop by to watch some of the auto-x in Camden. Look for me. I'll either be in my black '94 Prelude VTEC or my '67 Vette.

I think I will be there just to spectate on Saturday.

I will be in my white turbo civic coupe. You should see the intercooler up front.

By the way, what's everybodys name? I don't want to have to call you guys by your login name!

also, when you work for an event, what exactly do you have to do?

thanks in advance,

aj

Well, since the others listed lotsa good links and info. May I be the one to welcome you to some of the most fun that you'll have behind the wheel of your car. Racing that is. To be specific Solo II racing or more commonly known as Auto-X or just the X!

You are obviously already interested so let me just say you could have not posted in a more helpful and friendly forum for information.

But, now, are ya really ready for that new monkey on your back? I'm serious man, it's bad. At first the Auto-Xing rivals the addiction of Crack. Then maybe, just maybe you'll venture onto a track for a PDA event or performance driving school, then it's all over. You'll get hooked worse than Heroin.

It's a tough addiction but, It's the best natural high I have encountered... Of course I haven't tried skydiving,,,Yet!!!

Good luck,

A.

PS just look up your car and it's current configuraton to fit a race catagory. Stock or as close to stock are great classes to really learn in.

Wow thanks a bunch guys, I can't believe I actually found a helpful and education Forum, not just a bunch of people posting pictures of their cars asking if they like there new altezas or not. Saturday looks like a go for me. I'm just going to watch maybe I'll participate next time. Look for me on Saturday you can't miss me I'll be the only one looking lost with a black 1990 Integra with a white hood (yes you read that right, don't ask). I never thought I'd get involved in actual racing so I didn't conceder classes when modifying my car, dang, I hope I didn’t modify something too much and put myself in a higher class. So far I have Skunk2 Coil-overs, Koni shocks (yellow), Specialty Products camber kit, Nuespeed front upper strut bar, and a set of Suspension Techniques anti-sways bars, also some 17 inch wheels with a 40 series tire(I know I should have gotten smaller but I didn't know when I ordered them a few months back). I guess that's about it. No engine work yet, I really wanted my car to handle well not just go fast, I live for the turns not the ¼ mile. Thanks for all the advice and I'll hopefully see you up in Phili this Saturday. I'm coming from Towson (little north of Baltimore) so does anyone have an address of where the Auto X is? I wanted to type it in Mapquest to write out some driving directions. Thanks everyone again.

Dan Cole in my mostly black old FI handling integra.

I have a '90 GS and found the 17x7 wheels with Yokohama A520 tires to handle just as good as the 15x7s with Kumho 712's...If you have a good set of tires on the 17s it shouldn't be too bad, then main thing is keeping your momentum and not slowing down too much. Auto-X is veryyy Addictive...so much in fact that my '90 GS is now my designated race only car ...building it up for E-Prepared currently, though might eventually go D Mod if I ever go really crazy on the car and have enough money. In fact it's soooo addictive that I took my Toyota Tacoma out to this months event and had a blast!

Since you have the Neuspeed Strut bar and upgraded swaybars maybe you could give me an idea of how the car responds compared to stock (I'm thinking of going with the Neuspeed Strut Bar front and Progress 22mm bar rear)?
Since you're going to an event why not participate the first time out...you will regret not doing so! At the very least, if you go early and they have morning and afternoon registration like over here, try to get a ride in someone's vehicle (preferrable a miata driven by a crazy older woman... ). You will be begging to sign up after that ride...either that or puking your guts out from motion sickness...LOL Welcome to the H-T Competition board and if you have questions for your G2 LS Honda-Tech is the place to be.

Hrm I posted a map somewhere
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...rXextjQAI6pA7d

If this doesn't work then type in Camden, NJ. Then zoom on Ben Franklin Bridge (top bridge). You will see Cooper Street and that's where it is. Right behind the Camden Rutger's Campus.

My name is Mike Nice to meet you AJ.

When you work there are different stations but for most newbies you will be running to pick up cones. They will go over everything at the driver's meeting around 9:30am. don't be late... Philly Region is notorious for keeping to 9:30am registration closing....

Default this sounds like fun.

Sweet I can't wait until Saturday.

To answer your question I wouldn't go with the progress 22mm in the rear, it's just to big, the suspension techniques gives it a very neutral feel to the car. I don't know how it would feel with just the rear bar installed I installed the set at the same time? I can tell you the car is amazing with the anti-sway bar set installed made a HUGE difference. It has an almost go-cart feel to it now, kind of like driving on railroad tracks like you were attached to the road. Defiantly go with the Neuspeed bar in the front, I wouldn't recommend Neuspeed for too much else but for the second generation Integras they are by far the stiffest with the double brace and no adjustments, makes for a stiff bar. Hope that review helps a little.

See you Saturday, btw, anyone with a turbo want to take me for a ride? Never been in a turbo honda before.

You cannot give rides to passengers. Only instructors are allowed to ride along - NJ State Law.

From Baltimore prolly about 1.5 hours? Put it on mapquest.com

Camden, NJ - Baltimore, MD

Track days and skydiving are comparable in natural highs...

In the DC region, many autocrosses are held as part of the MWCSCC's championship. MWCSCC = metro washington council of sports car clubs.

BMWCCA, PCA, SCCA-WDCR, and a few others are all members. Events are held all over the DC metro area. Frederick, Rosecroft, Summit Point, Tipton Airfield, etc.

The SCCA also runs a few club only events a year.

Also, NASA (national auto sport association) holds autocrosses at Virginia Motorsport Park, which is near Richmond. Haven't been myself, but supposedly well worth the drive.

If you want to go faster, try a High Performance Driving School with NASA. Or a similar event with BSR (company that runs/manages Summit Point), Speedtrial USA, Car Guys, PCA, BMWCCA, etc. The local tracks are Summit Point (WV, about 1 hour West of DC) and Virginia International Raceway (VIR, in Danville, VA on the NC/VA border).

That break-down helped a-lot there are so many clubs and all. I'll settle for a ride just on the street, doesn't have to be in ciricles on the track. btw how much do schools usually run$ ? I sure would like to learn how to dive my car. See ya Saturday, I guess I'll be looking for a turbo Civic with the intercooler, a few corvetes and some other people from the board.

Cool, thanks for the info. I had pretty much decided on the Neuspeed strut bar - still undecided on rear swaybar (I like a car to have a little bit of oversteer rather than neutral)...maybe a Type-R bar will do.

If I could be Auto-xing I would, but PA is a little ways off from here. But the next event is the first weekend in February, so I won't have too long to wait... I need to stop running my truck and fixing the house and get back to working on my GS if I'm going to run it this year!!!
