Anybody using the ZEX Race cam? If so, what's your opinion on it, mid range, top end, quality, idle, did you use the retainers and valve springs? What mods would you compare it to as far as hp gains? Thanks.

In the Sept. 2000 issue of Super Street they dynoed the ZEX 59300 performance cam. They used stock valve train.
W/ out tuning, they got 3 hp.

After installing a hks air filter, adjustable cam gear, and new wires, w/ a bit of tuning they got a total of about 7 1/2.

 

i got one in my JDM D15B:
-haven't upgraded the springs or retainers
-don't have the cam gear installed either (the cam is 5 degress retarded currently because of this (thanks MistaBone))

as far as gains defiantly after VTEC there is an improvement in power, feels very peppy and quick, haven't dynoed yet but will very soon, before the cam 117whp and 100lbs of torque, will see after the cam and cam gear install very soon...

-i defiantly recommend it, there is no idel difference, its perfectly normal, little more valve train noise, but minimal...I have done over 5k km on it already and defiantly recommend it...
