Default New to Honda in general.

I recently picked up a 1988 Honda CRX with a JDM B16A1 and a GSR tranny. Now I'm not all to familiar with Honda, the last three vehicles I owned were GM vehicles but I figured I'd try something new.

What I'd like to learn is the more technical aspects of the B16 motor. Stock hp rating is what I'd like to know the most tho.

Are there any sites that would be good for me to read that would break me into the Honda/VTEC so I can completly understand it?

Thanks

Theres no such thing as a jdm b16a1..Its just b16a ..And the one in your car is most likely a sir1..Honda rates it a 158-160hp at the flywheel..

There's a couple articles on the net about how vtec works..

He said the ECU was chipped with no rev limiter or speed limiter. Whats the redline on the B16A?

Can I get it to have a rev limiter but no speed limiter?

I forget what the rev limit is on a pr3 or pw0 ecu(between 8200-8500)....But the b16a stops makin power after 8200rpm..so 8200rpm would be perfect..

I talked to the owner I got it from 'bout where the motor and tranny came from.

He said the motor came from a Japanese Honda CRX and the tranny came from a newer model Japanese Integra.

My question is, say I needed a replacement part, like a water pump what car do I use that had the same B16A? For a clutch do I use the same engine or does the GSR tranny make me need a different clutch? Same thing with the CV's, do factory CRX cv's bolt in or do I have to use CV's from a different car...

I know how all this may seem real novice but like I said I'm brand new to Honda.

Thanks for all the help so far.

you can use parts from a del sol that came with a b16a3, 99-00 civic si because they are virtually the same motors.also some integra parts.if you need to replace an axle get the half shaft and axle from a 90-93 non abs integra.good luck and dont be scared to romp on it every once in a while to let here scream.thats my fav sound in the world.my super quite greddy exhaust then fulll throttle and vtec is screamin.good luck

Water pump can be from a 94-97 Del Sol DOHC VTEC or a 1999-2000 Civic Si

Match the clutch to the transmission. The clutch discs are different between the 90-91 transmissions and the 92-93 transmissions.

Use 90-93 integra non abs axles.

Any more questions?

Thanks guys.

I haven't really heard the VTEC yet, the car has no exhaust after the exhaust manifold as of right now... haha. I've been on the throttle here and there though, just I gotta pay attention more cause it doesn't have a rev limiter...

If I have anymore questions I'll ask, thanks again.

You should easily be able to hear VTEC crossover with no exhaust. Easily.
