http://www.comscc.com also has a driving event there.
keep an eye on the site. while i know most clubs have there 2005 dates set there maybe they have some ironing out to do still. I know last year they had all the HPDE days listed in a seperate schedule with what club was renting it out and the contact info.

NHIS isn't an option for you? That can't be much more than 4 hours from any part of RI. It's 2 hours to NHIS for me from Worcester and about an hour for me to the Providence airport. Perhaps you don't do ovals? Some people don't.

if you haven't been to The Glen, you gotta try it. It's addicting. That 6+ hour drive is totally worth it. I can't wait to go back. The track is just amazing, really.

thanks so much guys, im happy to see more events there. i would love to go to the glen maybe once to try it out but my main worry is something blowing up on my car due to the 187k on the motor.
which brings me to wonder, if anything hapens to your car at the track, is there any services and cheap way to get it home?

Chris, I hear ya!! My Prelude has over 190K on the stock engine and every year I think it would blow up. But it never did. I'm finally getting a IT engine, but only because of want not need. When I was driving the car to the track, I typically stayed local as you're doing. (Although one year I made the trip from CT to Pocono.)
Cheap way to get it home? If something happens to the car, do you have any friends that have trailers?
I've been running with SCDA for 4 years now; two as a student and two as an instructor. I've also run with other clubs and found I learned the most with SCDA. They also have informative class room sessions in addition to your track time.

hey thanks dave, i also plan to set up my car for IT when i feel im ready.
I dont have any friends with trailer access so if worse comes to worse, i can have a friend rent one and come to get me but even that would kinda suck. oh well, i wanna get to the dam track. i will change my oil pump, water pump, timing chain and fluids though to be as safe as possible.
maybe ill see you there this year dave and maybe even instruct me

Make sure you do your brake fluid. (Sounds like you're already planning on that anyway.)
I'm pretty sure I'll be at the March LRP event with my yellow ITB prelude. I also recommend you go to some SCCA regional races as well.

Many LRP IT races are single days. For single days, the a.m. is qualifying and the afternoon is the racing part. Because of this, it isn't necessary to get their first thing although that is usually the best time for you to walk around and ask lots of questions. People are very friendly and willing to help. The first LRP race is 5/7 (Sat). I can't wait!! (Got reclassed from ITA to ITB)
If at all possible, I would recommend reading Speed Secrets 1 prior to your first event. It will allow you to learn more when you get to the track.

NHIS in Loudon NH is a half-hour closer to Providence than Limerock Park is.
I live in Somerset MA... I know this.
I hope to do my 1st COMSCC event this year after Nationals in Sept.
I know you're asking about track days... but have you tried auto-x? They're only about an hour from Prov. in Ayer MA. (See the NER site for info). There are more auto-x days than track days.... something to keep youi occupied on the weekends between track days (if you're not fixing your car that is)

1. For SCDA events download the application, fill out the check and mail it.
2. Make sure your car is in good working condition, fresh brake fluid, plenty of brake pad.
3. Go to track on time.
4. Have a great time.
Seriously, you couldn't pick a better group to get started with in the NorthEast. Ian is one of my best friends, he has the best instructor pool of anyone around, and he focuses making you, the customer, whether a new guy or grizzled veteran, have a great time.
Limerock is a great track but as mentioned before, NHIS has plenty of events there and is a great place to drive.

you've gotten plenty of people here posting info for you to follow. Now do some research on your own.
if you had checked out http://www.scda1.com and http://www.comscc.com you'll find between the 2 clubs there are 9 NHIS dates. I'm not trying to be a dick as you had some good questions but now you're asking questions that you could have answered on your own if you had used the links provided to you previously. Be sure to check out the FAQ on SCDA's site. It will answer more questions you'll likely have.
for auto-x check out http://www.ner.org.
and from personal experience basing my decision largely on fun factor, and secondary factors such as cost and facility, I would take a track day at NHIS over LRP any day. And I wasn't sure as far as the distance but KC confirmed that NHIS is closer.

Distance isn't the reason I have one tentative NHIS date on my schedule and many LRP (SCDA, SCCA, EMRA) dates on it. I like a track that was built for road racing, although NHIS is the best oval / road course I've run on.
The LRP down-hill is huge rush. It is all a matter of personal preferance though.
