Default How many R owners here drive thier R's to college and get eyeballed like a ****!

I must get eyeballed 4-5 times a day at school (not just the stupid stare, more like the drive over...park right next to you and just stare at your just for hours or you find these guys looking underneath your car or putting their heads up to the glass to see inside). This **** drives me nuts, I know the R is hot but I would never touch someone else's car. I'm on the verge of selling my R because theft seems like it will come anyday now and I am not ready nor willing to see my baby in pieces on someone else's beat *** Red EK hatch. I'd rather sell and buy a strictly DD and not have to worry anymore.

I'm at a crossroad:

1) Sell the R and get a beater, not another nice car.

2) Keep the R as long as I can and find proper storage when availible.

Any suggestions?

Good point, I just hate body work (i.e. theft or attempted theft ends up damaging paint or metal). I've been through one-break in and thats enough for me.

Assuming I do get a beater, where's the best place to store my R in the meantime( no garage space for her). Going to a storage depot seems a little sketchy. It might actually be easier for the thieves to break into the storage unit and get the caR. Can anyone gives me a price on what to pay to store your caR and what kind of storage? Thanks guys!

Typical public storage place will charge $80-100/month for a storage unit large enough for a car. I pay $50/month for a slot in an old lady's detached 3 car garage -- including garage door opener.

Get yourself an 85 dx hatch with 3 hubcaps, some badly needed replaced wheel bearings, and a paint job that looks similar to a 3rd graders arts and crafts period and i promise you the looks will no longer be an issue

<---who could not be more proud of his BeateR

i was lucky NOT to get my R stolen at the university i attend. the R is too burdensome in college and it's IMO that it'd be better to sell and get a beater. buy a R when you can actually enjoy it.

Theres nothing like zipping around in your R after failing a mid-term. I still say he keeps it!

My car survived 3 years at college, not a single scratch or dent. In fact, someone acutally left a bunch of flowers on my car one night.

At this point, its only a matter of time.

Your classes have set times right? So you're parking routines are, lets say, tick tock, on a schedule.

All a thief has to do is follow you for one week, and he's made himself some quick cash just knowing when you're near the car and when you aren't. Predictability. Do you really think campus security will care if your car is stolen?

Whats the point of having an R while in school? You should be focusing on your studies. Not trying to scare you, just being realistic.

as alexander has already stated, realistically there really isn't a reason to have an R in college. also, realistically type Rs do get stolen frequently anywhere.

I say keep the R, you know you want to. Find an EF Civic as a DD and take all necessary precautions of theft deterrent to keep your car where it belongs. I realize, if they want it they will get it, but do everything you can.

Yep when I went to Community College I always had people looking at the car. Always had somebody looking in the window when i got back from class. But most of the time I think they just admired it.

If it's your only mode of transportation just make sure you park it somewhere where it is in a high traffic area and make sure you have kill switches, removable steeringwheel, autolock at the minumum.
