One thing to look at is the power potential...

There are many parts made for the B16A, H22A, and D16A6/D16Z6 Hybrid, and even less for the DOHC ZC (I have never seen anything in the form of valvetrain upgrades, anyways).

I'm assuming you already have the D16A6 block, so my vote goes with the Mini Me... Build it up from the inside, becaue people will see a SOHC VTEC and not be nearly impressed as if it were a B16A or H22A. Go the sleeper route

Most power for the money..
Dohc zc..Twin cam and 127hp(130ps)
Complete bolt-in
$500 from hmotorsonline.com

Some parts are hard to find..Have to match **** up with the 87-89 integra motor and the 88-91 preludes..And the zc is still a weak *** d-series motor..Cant go more then 200whp on the stock block..Not many performance parts besides exospeed.com..

**** that.

If you want ~200whp go with a boosted mini me. That'll make the most money for the buck.

If you're going to go b series, go pickup a full ls swap...you can find them easily for $500-$800 (Or for $150 for a longblock here) and then boost that 250-300whp without a problem. And you have the option of ls/vtec down the road if you want.

Rebuild your d16a6, build a spare, piece together a turbo system, and buy a good ecu = b16 swap.

But youll have more torque, more power, and a fresh back up engine. Or better yet, rather than building a spare, buy a spare (100 at most from a local shop) d16a6, leave it as a stock replacement and spend that 300 building your d to better handle FI.

For the record My d16a6 w/ i/h/e/lsd/tb/flywheel pretty much kept up with a b16 swapped 5th gen that had i/h/e/lsd/flywheel. He only pulled on me at the top of third.

The B16 is overrated, and IMO a waste of money. Ive also took the time and spent the money to swap a b18b from a 94 LS. Unless its a C5 I wont ever swap in another engine for my d16. Hands down.

Now dont get me wrong...a B16 with work will better a D with work, or a B16 w/ FI will better a D w/ FI, but you dont have to spend that extra 2k+install on the D that is already in your car.

Bang for the buck goes to a turbo D...no ifs ands or buts.

I completely agree that the b16 is overrated, but I believe you didn't tap nearly the potential of the b18b (I dont know your exact setup, but assuming it was stock you didn't tap what it could do.

IMO ls/vtec w/ different tranny + boost = the way to go if you're actually going to spend money on a setup.

Ill agree that the b18b has good potential, but my final cost after buying

Engine LB(500)
Ls Cable Trany (200)
Mounts (400)
Clutch (200)
Throttle cable (50)
Axles (200)
Timing Belt (80)
Alternator (100)
Starter (100)
plus whatever misc tools I had to buy

Put me at about 2500 for the entire swap including fluids. I could make a sreaming ape of a turbo D series for 2500, that would be nearly bullet proof, push 10 psi, and rip the doors off of almost any stock b series swap.

If a person had the money to first get a B series, then build it...by all means do so. But if your shooting for budget power, just boost your d series. Take your time, become educated about boost ( I suggest maximum boost by: corky bell as a good starter http://www.amazon.com/exec/obi...82222 ), build a solid d series and make some torque!!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I have gotten 4 d16A6's for free, and 2 for less than $50 from my local speed shops. All in running order w/ around 100k on each. It costs about 250 to do a total OEM honda rebuild, and about 500 to make a very solid boost worthy engine.

My first b18a1 I got the whole long block, throttle body to oil pan, tranny, clutch, and a piece of the linkage + axles with it in trade for a $75 oil line kit, and some mandrel bends

I am now picking up another b18a1 from a pull apart for $100 ...but it is kind of a side deal...it is a 91 teg, it hasn't even been touched yet im going to pick it up with a car trailler, i have ot bring it home and take the motor but im also going to take the tranny/axles/linkage and just toss one of my old fucked up d series trannys in there along with some d series linkage and busted up axles

nearly full swap = $100

Yeah, it isn't normal for people ot grab ls blocks for that cheap but im kind of lucky for my area i guess

I didn't rip them off, ran into a few problems with finishing up the kits. I've stay in contact with both of them and I should have them out this week.

You obviously haven't looked very hard. I've seen B18 valvetrains put into the ZC head.

I say boosted ZC or take a look here:https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1139538. That right there is badass, 500 dollars and stock honda parts. It's not so much of what people think you should do, it's more about what you want to do. Either way you'll be pulling that stock engine out. Me personally, now that I have a ZC I want to buy another, rebuild it, and turbo it, or build a turbo mini-me out of the stock Si I have left over.

Never underestimate the power of the B16a in a CRX baby. VTEC!!!!! yeah!!!

You will get power and economy. If it's only for the track, then only the size of your bank account is your limit. B16a though, will go VERY far performance wise and despite the money spent, you will realize it was well worth the money.

No. The poor people will always argue that an LS is a better engine... even though the most expensive part of an LS/VTEC is always going to be the head....

I have an LS in my CRX. The only reason I chose B16 is because there wasn't an LS option on the list. Also, I bought 2 low mileage LS engines (I have the VIN's from them, they were US Integras from the yard) for really cheap. The first one which easily passed smog, I bought for like $1300. It included 2 brand new axles which were still in plastic. Since I had bought that engine, the guy gave me a deal and sold me a running longblock for only $130.
