Default Engine termp goes 3/4..

I have a 92 DA and my engine temp goes to 3/4 of the way when i'm in traffic.
I checked my radiator and the fan works.

Whats going on? Is it the relay?

check the temp difference between the top and bottom radiator hoses, this sounds like poor flow in the radiator. Has the T-stat ever been changed?

I believe not, I did a 2000 LS swap on my 92 Da. The 2000 engine had 45k. If I shold replace it. Will at 92 DA T Stat be compatible on a 2000 LS?

since you have a 2000 ls motor you should just get a thermostat for a 2000 ls.
the other might work but why bother?

it will very likely work, but at least you'll have to get a new gasket for it.

?? get a new gasket for it? I still have my 92 DA brand new from the dealer and it didn't come with a gasket.

i had the same trouble & had a blown head gasket, & when Acura went to replace it, they found out that my head was warped so I had it machined, & my radiator , a few of the hoses were leaking coolant & I was leaking coolant internally in the head, which is really weird how the car ran... but after i got the $1110.86 bill, the car seemed to have so much more power

if you're comfortable doing this yourself, you can save yourself at least $800 of that charge. FYI.

I had this happen on a couple of my DA tegs.......the fan relay was bad and would turn the fan off and on intermittently, and according to when it it was turned on or off the teg would run hotter.

also keep and eye on your radiator fluid levels to make sure you don't have a slow leak.

how did you check the fan? do you know if it comes on when it's supposed to? does the temp needle stop 3/4 of the way up, or will it keep going if you let it (don't go much farther!)? also, try a junkyard fan and see if it's just that your fan isn't spinning fast enough. also try junkyard relay, or see if (in your manual!) there is a procedure for testing out your relay. sometimes there is.

1) does it stay at 1/4 in traffic?
2) does it go down on the highway?
3) how high is your idle when sitting still (in neutral and all warmed up)?
4) how high is your idle right after cold start?
5) how high is your idle after coasting for several seconds but still in neutral?

it stays about a lil less than 1/4 almost all the time, even after driving for half hour on the freeway. My idle on cold start is about 2k rpm. Sometimes my idle will be at about 750rpm and the temp would go back to normal, but a little after, it goes back to 1/4 and the idle raises to about 1200.

basically it just keeps going back and forth, bad thermostat or what?

what about during traffic? what happens if you just got off the highway, and sit in traffic for a few minutes? if everything was normal, it would go up near halfway, then stay there and never got hotter. then, when you get moving, it should start to go back down after half a minute. but i need to know about what happens in traffic, too. or just idling by your garage or something, not moving, not revving, no a/c on.

The temp stays at 3/4 while just sitting not moving at all. When the car starts moving, temp goes back to normal.

I'm not sure, but maybe '92 still had the older system with a fan-timer module & 2 different fan switches. If that system is still installed in the car, but your engine has only 1 fan switch, how is it all wired up?

Then you might want to check a wiring drawing for '92. Figure out whether your car is looking for a 2nd fan switch?? Did you have any wiring plugs with no place for them on the new engine?
