Default Spoon 70mm Throttle Body Gains...

Anyone know if it's worth the $500 to get the 70mm Spoon throttle body. I already have I/H/E/VAFC and was wondering what kind of hp gains I could expect.

Any thoughts?

Some people get NO GAIN at all and I know for the fact that many people with over 200whp with stock trottlebody. However, Aj-racing has they get 3hp mid-range on their motors.

Since you already have the ITR TB, dont waste the money. It IS a good upgrade, though, for a B16 along with an ITR IM.

the only thing I've heard about throttle bodies is that it might help with better throttle response which will feel like you have more power, however you don't. This is the case with JRSC cars adding throttle bodies, so it might be different for NA setups, etc...

it is definitely more feeling on a na car. you have to figure it is letting more air in sooner so you will have that bump in the mid range but once you are wide open throttle it is not going to really make a difference between the two.

I only gained 1-2 hp with it, throttle response is a bit perkier.
Only reasons to get it
1. Cheaper than buying an ITR TB from the dealer new (If you dont have one Ex: B16 owners etc.) and its Tapered to 70mm
2. If you cant have the downtime of taking your TB off to send out to be tappered

I would say if you already have an ITR then just take the TB off send it out and have it tappered. It isnt much to have done.

A boring job cost a less amount than that but some ppl also wanted to keep their stock TB so Spoon offer this item.

With Spoon air filter + Spoon sports muffler + test pipe we did see a 5whp at mid-range. RagingAngel on this board have his car dynoed for these numbers.

I have one, but I really can't feel the gain with my butt dyno. Just like what other ppl said, I brought it only because I don't have a TypeR TB and the dealer want like $700Cdn for a new Type R one. So I just brought the Spoon TB for cheaper.

Thanks for all the great info guys! I think I'll save my money and invest in a lightweight flywheel instead.

The spoon TB is a bad choice..

The custom-Idol TB has a inner diameter of 72mm at the side where it`s mounted.
It gained 8hp in a stock R and is the best I know.

I have it in for now but I`m still breaking in my cams.

If somedody`s interested: 440 Euro cost.

"It gained 8hp in a stock R"

An R that gains 8hp from a bigger TB is not stock.

Sorry man, but I don't see how that's possible.

Maybe if it had all the normal bolt-ons, a hogged-out IM, aftermarket fuel control & some serious cams. An 8hp gain from a TB upgrade in a stock Honda is unheard of. Unless it just shifted the power curve. It gained 8hp at this point, but lost "X"hp at that point.

Who's car was this, who did the install & who did the dyno run?

Well I've tested on track and I used only AEM CAI and Spoon 4-2-1, hi flow cat, and thermal exhaust with it. I notice more pep off the line right up to about vtec and one it kicks in the extra pep disappears after that. But for me it was perfect as I don't drag race and everything else I do is track racing or running the gap in TN and back trails here.

I have used Spoon TB that tested only once which was purchased from Spoon around a yr ago used of one there test or demo cars. The TPS did get damaged but all you have to do is pop on your ITR's TPS and set the voltage and your ready to go as this what I did to run mine. If anyone interested I'm selling out most all my stuff as I'm going into the services hopefully soon and anyone that has $305 I will sell it too you and that includes shipping also this TB only has approx. 2k and it had less then that when I got it and I only put about around 400 miles on it.

Also to bore out TB as stated above to say 70mm+ is basically asking for trouble because I've seen TB's come apart at 70mm from everyday use and track events. 68mm is what is normally recommended unless you don't want peace of mind. But if you only care about power go ahead but you may find it cracking shortly especially if you stress it alot in track events. I get all my info from folks thats done it here and also from my shop man that used to race only Hondas for King and Redline back in the day and also worked on Hondas in Japan and US for around 30 yrs I would think anything he said would be pretty good knowledge base.

I saw a dyno of a 1998 GSR with a 64mm JG t/b and it made 6hp! It even had i/h/e. Go figure.

On the Spoon t/b there is a hose that connects on the top of the t/b. There is also two area on the bottom that are connected to hoses. Are all these coolant lines?
