use dry ice... let it sit on the tar for a few minutes or until you see the tar almost turn white, then you can use a chisel flat head, etc... to take it off

that seems to work well for older cars...

The newer tar i've encountered didn't really flake like it was supposed to. Therefore, a heat gun, chisel, and manual labor came into play

I used dry ice on my crx also...just let it sit there for about 20 minutes, came back and hit it witha hammer. It started to chip, then I used a chisel for anything that was left over.

Or hire a couple neighbor kids to do it...ha ha. The heat gun makes a mess for sure. If you do it that way...and you get most of it out, add WD40 to the small tar parts left over. That adds the oil back to the tar and then you can wipe it off with a rag.

I never said it was easy...but it seams like the most effiecient way to do it.

There will be some tar that wont come off even with the dry ice over it but lifes a bitch.

For the little bit of left over tar and small pieces of sound deadoning, i used a drill with a wire brush attachment. It worked very well.

A really cold day helped me.
The rest I used a heat gun.
With the sticky stuff I used a adhesive remover from the auto parts store.

If you aren't going full out on your car, there are ALOT of other things i think i'd do before removing tar.... But if you have nothing else, then have fun!
