Default Heater...and a kinda off idle

Ok i didn't want to make two diffrent threads to save bandwidth...so

I just finished my DOHC ZC swap (its so nice ) and i'm still having two distinct problems.

1) the heater doesn't work. I though tthat maybe the radiator was clogged but i felt both the main hoses and they are equally warm. I have a brand new all aluminum radiator and it seems to be keeping the car ALOT cooler, or perhaps its just my weather. Either way, i remember the temp guage sitting at about 1/2 or slightly above 1/2 before and now its about 1/3, or alittle lower.

So what would cause my heater to not work?

2) i discovered this today on the way home...if i rev above 4K rpms and let it drop (clutch in) it dips below 1K RPMs to like 350 Rpms then bounces back up to like 1500 RPMs. It repeats the 3 times about 3-4 seconds between each dip.

Now i tryed it with 3K RPMs and it didn't happen, and i tryed it at 2K rpms, with no dip. So its only if it goes over 4K RPMS i guess.

If this accounts for anything i'm throwing a code 1 (oxygen sensor) , but i'm really broke and can't afford to replace it right now

Thanks for any help guys

I had an idle/heater problem, but mine is a little different. The heater was cold, gauge read 1/3, the idle was fine it just wouldn't go under 1k rpm. My thermostat was stuck open. Replaced and it works great now. The low coolant temperature wouldn't let the IACV melt completely which cause the high idle... Just an idea.

would that also explain why my temp guage wasn't working this morning?

i have a 17 minute drive to work in the morning, and it didn't register and temperature until i was about 3-4 minutes from work. I was just thinking it was because it was cold outside

I know i'm not so smart at 6:30 in the morning

lol. The thermostat would be my guess for the heater/temp. I got a 170* for about $6, so not too much of a loss even if it doesn't help. You may want to check it out first. As for the idle problem, if you change the thermostat, see if it makes any difference.

i'm sure i'll love working on that bastard

The bottom radiator hose goes right to the thermostat housing. You need to take the housing off to get to the thermostat. Its about where the intake meets the intake manifold down by the block.

I was thinking, I had some trouble with my IACV when I put a ZC in my old HB. I just cleaned it and it was fine. Just take it off (back of intake manifold, just to the right of the throttle body), and spray the screens with some carb cleaner. But make sure that you disconnect the water lines and everything...

ok so the thermostat housing is that big network looking thing of hose outlets...i think i can get to that relativly easy.....

and the EACV i had to clean yesterday....it fixed my other idle problem. (it was sitting at 3K RPMS and wouldn't drop for the life of me) so i cleaned it out and cleaned the one off my old D16a6 and put back on the Zc one. It fixed the idle for the most part. Only complaint is that it idles at about 1K RPMS right now , but thats WAY better than 3K

I would just wait and see if the thermostat fixes it. Then if it doesn't, just go from there.

And yes, there are quite a few hoses going to the thermostat/housing. Just follow the lower radiator hose to the motor, you'll find it.
