I was wondering how much would u pay for a 97 ITR tranny with a grind in 3rd gear? Does the 97 itr tranny have the 4.75 final gear?

4.4 FD

Mine has a grind in 3rd at higher RPMs, but after putting in GM Synchromesh FM, it's starting to come back slowly.

I have that tranny. I paid $1000 for it. $1300 shipped. Well worth it. 4.7 FD would be nice to have though, but that transmission still pulls VERY nicely. Much better than my 4.4 SIR transmission. Oh and about the grind, synchros can be changed..

The tranny is in his EG now, the guy that sold it to him was parting out his EK he rolled... had a full JDM Type R swap. He got the the one that says "J4D LSD" on the case for $300... after reading this thread, I guess the guy that sold him the tranny REALLY didn't know what it was worth AND my friend got an amazing deal! I'm going to tell him next time I see him.

for my buddy
for the seller

I'd buy that one for $700.00 (or less) or so and buy the 3rd gear sleeve set for $180.00-$200.00 depending on your hook-up, and just pay a competant mechanic $100.00 or so on the side to put the 3rd gear synchro in it.

You could also buy the 5 case/shaft bearings while you've got the tranny apart, so yoiu'd basically have a new tranny.

...and 3rd gear grinds are very common on all B series trannies with some miles on them. for some reason it takes the worst beating.

Also for the guy who said his ITR tranny pulls better than his 4.400 SiR tranny:

If you've got the 4.400 ITR tranny it would pull no better, because the ITR and SiR trannies have the exact same gearing, but the ITR has LSD. LSD won't make the car pull harder except for in turns.

well i drove the car and 3rd is really bad....It grinds going in and sometimes it pops out..so im assuming this tranny needs a whole new 3rd gear synchro
