noob question: how much hp does an obd-1 ls have?
92-93 OBD1 B18A1 = 140hp
94-95 OBD1 B18B1 = 142hp...though I just say all them have 140hp, but someone will flame me I'm sure and tell me it's technically 142hp.

whicih is about 125whp</TD></TR></TABLE>
well, 125whp would be phenominal for a 10-year-old car. most of them i see are running 120ish, but i've seen several running about 115whp, and a few as good as 122-123. so don't be disgusted if you only get into the 'teens.

well, you only get the "2 hp" if you're actually running OBD-I. the LS engine stayed the same from '92 to '01, but only the '94-'95 cars (OBD-I chassis) got the 2 extra hp.

Only a 12% drivetrain loss?? That's the first I've seen on any stock FWD car

wear and tear on the engine. really old + flogged = low number, new + old lady + taken care of by smart old man or old lady's son = nice high number. also, sometimes you just get a motor that, from the factory, just performs a bit better than the rest of them.

well, this is honda-tech.com. we here have hondas, yo. mostly.

12 to 14 % I thought was average drivetrain loss for a FWD and RWD was 18 to 23 % loss.

Not to mention the fact every motor is different and will yield a lil higher or lower than factory specs

I do believe parasitic loss through the drivetrain in almost 20%. more on an auto tranny than a 5-speed.

but can parasitic losses be minimized by solid motor mounts and an underdrive pully set like the unorthodox racing set?

I was under the impression that parasitic loss was around 17% (give or take a couple %) on a FWD MTX car... I do believe solid mounts will help eliminate some of that loss (no more power wasted flopping the engine around). And a UDP definitely helps.

no offense or anything, man, but i'm a bit honda-biased. and your avatar is a ford. and i hate the ford family. they are avid anti-semites, among other things, and not just your average ones. historically, they give money to anti-semitical organizations. anyways, sorry to go off on a rant and thread jack and all, just my $0.03.

It's all good. I love my car, and hold nothing against other other makes/models (well, except for Civics... but that's a different story
). To each his own
