I am trying to remove the 19mm bolt on the block to drain the coolant on the engine..

i cant get that freaking thing out.. where can i find a "breaker bar"?

 

What about a 1/2" drive rachet with a long bar on the end? Have you asked your neighbors if they had a breaker bar?

 

i am using a pretty long bar right now, the wastegate kind of gets in the way but i dont want to take that off because its probably not going to help that much anyway

any other suggestions?

Lol I just sat there staring at that pic for like 3 mins thinking "where the **** is this wastegate he's talking about"...I say go ask neighbors or maybe goto a local shop and see if you can leave something thats worth something in exchange for borrowing their breaker bar until you return it...

I always have trouble getting the bolt off when changing my oil. I just put the correct size wrench, make sure its snug, and bang it with a hammer. works every time. have you tryed that? be careful not to strip it if u do.

 

Go to like home depot and but like a 1.5 foot piece of metal piping..does me wonders.

 

I would just go buy a breaker bar if I were you... they aren't that expensive and they come in handy really often if you are working on old Hondas...

You should be able to break that loose easily with a breaker bar...

 

If none of your exhaust manifold tubing is in the way, try using a 6 or 12" (probably 12") 1/2" extension (like $10 if that) and a 1/2" breaker bar ($20-30 dollars I believe for a Craftsmen) so you have room out by the radiator support to turn the breaker bar. If you do manage to break it loose, slap a ratchet on there and go to town.

I think he actually bought a real breaker bar there. Thats where I got mine...

But just to let you know the longer the handle the more ft-lbs you put on that bolt.

so a 1 ft handle putting on a 10lb pressure is 10lbs-ft.

and another 1ft to equal 2 ft. put on the same 10lbs of pressure and in actuallity you are putting down 20lbs. of pressure, woo hoo!! it is physics... all the way.

handle length || Your strength||equals
1ft X 10lbs = 10lbs-ft

Handle length plus added length || You strength||Equals
(1ft+1ft) X 10lbs = 20lbs-ft


Simple math, huh!?

 

Or just get one of these Husky Extendable Ratchests for the toolbox. It extends to 8 extra inches from its normal position.

It works pretty well.

 

My friend pubestripe and I use just a metal bar on the end of a rachet and beat the **** out of it.... AND ITS CHEAP!

 

don't use cheap extensions on that plug, i've owned all but craftsmans extensions on that piece.

 

Liberally applied penetrating oil left overnight works wonders...

 

I always thought that bolt was on the back of the engine block... is it different for the d-series engines?

exactly, i just bought a huge pipe that fit on the end of my ratchet, worked like a charm

I one time had to use my stock exhaust to break a spindle nut loose... I really need to invest in a good breaker bar. Thanks for the idea about the huskey

 

or just go to lowes and get a 2 ft steel pipe for only 5 bucks

 

I guess that would be the cheaper route
