Just bought a 91 LX Auto and on the shifter it has the button to put the car in sport mode. Now the car drives nice and smooth with no problems until the sport mode light starts flashing back and forth on the dash. Its seems like an electrical problem. The button does not turn the sport mode on and off and the thing just goes back and forth when it wants to. When I am driving and it goes back and forth it makes the car jerk. What would be the cause of this problem and how can I fix?

Your tranny computer uses that lamp the same way your ECU uses the check-engine lamp. You gotta read the error codes & go from there. Methods for reading the codes changed over the years, maybe '91 still has the flashing red LED on the tranny TCU?

edit... I don't own a '91 so I don't know where it's located. Search for CEL codes or ECU error codes. Later years you jumper something with a paperclip, & watch the dashboard lamp flash it's code. I don't know what year that started.

here's a bump for ya...

I guess late '80s cars had an LED right on the ECM, & one on the tranny TCM. you just peel pack the carpet & watch them flashing.

Some year, maybe about '91, they changed to a system where you jumper a connector & watch the check-engine light itself flashing. Same for the sport or D lamp for the tranny. Problem is, I don't know what year they switched to this.
