Grinding around 4,000 rpms???
I have a 1999 Honda Civic Si and this noise just started the other day. There is a grinding noise right around 4,000rpms. This only happens after vtec has been enganged. For example if v-tech has not been hit yet this noise will not exist. But after hitting v-tech for the first time during that drive it does it everytime the rpms are at 4,000. Any thoughts. Thankyou
one of your cams might have a chunk out of it, so when the extra lobe is being used it grinds because it is uneven,i would check them out
I have the same problem, kind of. But i have a stock 94 CX hatch. I just had the clutch replaced and flywheel resurfaced. Whenever i am driving, theres a nasty grinding noise. Sound starts right around 2500 rpms. Sounds horrible in 1st gear. second gear, you can kind of hear it. 3rd very faint, but 4th and 5th, no noise.
Also, If im sitting at a dead stop in neutral, and i dont have the clutch engaged, u can hear grinding, but when i engage the clutch, u can hear something spin around for a second or two then slow down to a stop.

Are you sure the grinding is coming from the head? It may just be something loose (such as a piece of heat shielding on the exhaust) that starts to vibrate when the engine is operating at just the right speed.
Yea thats what i was thinking at first. I checked it all but I will check again since I just receantly slammed my car. I have bottomed out a couple of times since then. I will check the exhaust one more time.
I had the same problem EG_Civic, It turned out to be the main input shaft bearing.

he thinks too much.. and knows too little.. haha j/k it was his exhaust.. he has a bummy *** one right now and the sound was vibration not grinding.. so when he gets a new one that joint should be good as new y00..
