My Honda Cup pics
Great Pics Casey,
Sorry I didn't keep the #66 running long enough for you to get a shot of it. It's the best it's ever looked!
Ironically we did not put the New "Honda Cup" Motor in the car and ran the old Sock bottom end "Honda Challenge" engine thinking we would get one last weekend out of it
I should have listened to my own advise!
Thanks also to you all, Casey, Rich, Brian, Mike, Curly, and all the crew for your help in setting up the three Special Projects Cars, they all handled beautifully! Congratulations and thanks to Tom and Phil, Great professional job running our #65 & #64 cars,
Two 2nd. places for Tom and a 3rd. for Phil. Not bad to start off the season with. Things are looking great for our New Honda Cup Team for this season, We have gathered together a wonderful group. Rich Hays our Crew Chief is back on board, new Drivers, new Mechanics and Crewmen, all team players! Once we get our 4th. and 5th. Cars completed for the Laguna Seca and Thunder Hill rounds, with two more top Drivers in the seats...
We will have Guest appearances of some well known drivers in one or two of our cars throughout the season just to add some spice!

Give Casey a pair of those long latex gloves and he's all business. It almost looked liked he was ready to give someone a proctology exam.

In addition to the entry fee, I'm sure you'll need an SCCA membership and a competition license... Just guessing, though. I'll need to read the rules myself to be sure.

The entry fees are controlled by SCCA Cal Club. I think it cost us $320.00 for the two days.
For a first time event I think we had a great turnout, and we will probably have twice the number of cars at the next event?
I'm surprised at the number of cars that are being built right now specifically for Honda Cup! I believe we have a great class developing here.
For the record, We bought the new engine which just happened to arrive on Saturday after I blew mine up. We were tempted to put it in my car but after 4 days of working until 3.30am my new Crewman, Brian Slames and I were about Done! All I wanted to do on Saturday night was sleep!
The new motor is going in our latest car - Our other Buddy Club sponsored EK Civic H/B which Phil Malgren has signed up to drive in future events this season. And of course Tom Lepper will drive the #65 K-20 Integra for the remainder of the Honda Cup season. Tom did a great job of keeping the completely stock K-20 al together and will be rewarded with a New Up Graded "Honda Cup" engine real soon!
The Blue Civic Si Coupe that Phil Malgren drove this weekend is our Buddy Club Project car which was thrown together in time for this event, but will be repowered and driven in the future by Andy Hope, Rich Hays, Dave Allen, and other well known Guest Drivers...
Thanks to everyone for your support.

Yeah, I could really see this honda-cup thing becomin HUGE,
I mean.. if a guy like me is even brainstorming entering, just think about
all the people who actually have money/sponsors/experience??
And I did read through prettymuch their entire website,
yes you must have an scca road racing license to enter.
Also looked through all the technical limitations/rules for the cars.
Not half bad at all, I didn't see anything there that would really turn your average enthusiast away from this event.

IMO this series is a step up from entry entry club level racing.

This is correct... The series is designed to be the last step before going into a full Pro Series such as Grand AM, or Speed World Challenge.
We are not trying to convince people that Honda Cup is a Cheaper than any other series. Were saying that it's rules should make the series more Cost Efective... The blowing up of the two Stock Bottom end motors at the last event is a testament to the logic in Honda Cup allowing the use of after market bottom end components.
This series is going to grow rapidly, you can count on it!
