Default timing belt snapped, read

I was in the car my my girl, eating and driving along, not going fast at all. I was in 3rd gear at about 30mph, (maintaing that speed not increasing) when all of a sudden the car just shuts off. I didn't hear any type of noise like any contact between parts in the head and pistons, it just sound like the car ran out of gas and just died. could I be lucky and not have F'ed anything up? I gonna finish pulling the head today when I get off of work, the only reason why i'm pulling the head instead of just replacing the belt to see how it runs is because I've had my cams and spring and retainers sitting in the closet for months now, so i'd just figure this would be the time to do it.

It's possible that you didn't mess anything up, but not probable. Take the head to a machine shop if you're taking it off anyways and have them check it out. Valves can be bent and look perfectly straight to the naked eye....

Time for the Pro Head package from JG.

This sounds exactly like the events that lead me to my engine build up.

The old B20A5 just shut off like someone flipped a switch. Got it home and it was not good. Some of the valves looked okay but were not.

If you don't have the tools or the means, get it to a shop. Hopefully, the valves didn't imbed themselves into the pistons.

How did you know your valves were bent if you could not tell by looking? Could that small of a bend be easily missed and kill the cars revving ability?

If the valves didnt look bent but really were, what tell tail signs would show that? I ask because a local shop told me that I didnt bend any valves when my timming belt broke.

i had the same problem... car would just die on me... i checked out everything... and after a day or too of non stop getting ideas and asking friend's opinions... my friend comes over... and of course.. .the last, simplest place we checked... never woulda thought about it... the plug which goes from the cap to the ignition coil was bad and had a poor connection to the coil... changed it and yay... was fixed..
