Default ~~ 89 CRX... daily driver... beater... planning for future suspension. coilover setup

so i've been driving this crx for about 3 months and i love it in the respect that it's great on gas, nimble, reliable, comfortable, etc...

well in an attempt to make it more pleasing to the eye i did the uncalled of and a chopped my springs. if you know me then you know i don't half *** things on my cars often... or at least i didn't used to. i've had some quite costly and extremely nice suspensions on my integra but this is different... it's a beater.... i really don't "care" about the car that much.

ok, back on point... i chopped 2 coils off the rear and 2.25 off the fronts. i was riding on stock 13" wheels with stock 4x4 looking tires and after chopping the springs it rode just as well as it did before. i was simply amazed.

in another horrible attempt to pick up some wheels i bought a set of speedmasters... 15x6.5" gorgeous wheels... i love them. they came with 205-50-15 azenis on them as well. not a bad beater for a broke college kid 'eh?

well with these wheels the cut springs aren't horrible.... but they are annoying. no bouncing like many complain of however the suspension is WAY too soft. going over speed humps in my neighborhood is the only time i am dissatisfied but i do it 4-6 times a day so it gets old. in traffic and on the road it's not an issue as the roads are smooth... generally speaking. the problem is the suspension is so soft that it travels WAY too much with these wheels.... if i go over the speed humps any faster than about 25 i'll bottom out enough to hit my bumpstops (uncut oem bump stops). not good.

so i've searched for an economical coilover setup and two have caught my eye... you guessed it... apollo and omnipower.

i don't think i really need to go anarther with that but if i do please let me know. it seems that everyone on this board knows everything about both sets... regardless, i'm the exception as i don't know....

looks like the omnipowers would be the better buy as they come with the bling LCA's.... that and the apollo's don't mention the crx as one of the vehicles which the coilovers will work... 92-95 hatch ones will fit though so that's ok.

my "real" questions are:
does anyone run these coilovers on their crx?

if so...
what spring rates?
how is the ride quality?
how long have you had them installed?
what type of driving have they been subjected to?

if you don't own a set but you think you can better help me to decide what to get them please chime in and let me know... i'm ready to learn.

i don't plan to slam the car but i would like to eliminate almost all the wheel gap.... attached is a picture of how the car sits now... bad picture b/c it's parked halfway on the curb/sidewalk but you can kind of gett the idea.....

thanks in advance for your help... and i owe everyone 5 mins for reading this book, i know...

Definetly go omni!

Best suspension bang for the buck.

it sure seems pretty unbeatable for the price.

i'd love to go koni/gc as i've had a few of those setups but i'm just not looking for that on this car... it would be a waste of money and just plain overkill.

does anyone have any comments on spring rates? i want a "tight" ride but not "riding on rails" stiff and rough....

i've never wanted this kind of ride before... i've always had stiff uncomfortable handle like a dream and ride like *** setup.... i am clueless as to what spring rates would be "too stiff"

Well you wouldnt want omnis.

If you want a setup that will handle nice and ride especially nice i would recommend the following:

Koni yellows
Neuspeed race
ST Reay sway <-- this will help the front biased rates from the neuspeeds.

I noticed that their are a lot of omnian "people." I don't know anyone who has done any legitimate testing with these coilovers. Everyone also says their great on the street, but I guess that is why everyone buys $700-800 for the street. I'm a Koni person, but I'm a koni person because I know they are proven on the course and they win championships. I think a lot of people would be surprised if they found out the amount of people who run Koni's/GC and not some overpriced coilover setup who have won championships.
I think that some people just want to have a "coilover" set instead of a seperate system like koni/GC. I'm not sure if its a status symbol or a bling bling thing.

Well you said you wanted something that wasnt gonna be too stiff, dude do your research, omni coilovers even in street trim are pretty damn stiff.

BTW, i am a Koni "person" but i run Omni slip overs switched fromt to back and vice versa.

i've done more reading about these coilovers in the past 24 hours thaan i thought i'd do in a year... i've done lots of research on the spring rates available and if this was another integra that weighed about 2400 pounds i'd know that i'd be happy with them... but it's not.

i've never owned a crx before and wanted crx owner's opinions who had these so they could give me some input as to how they ride. 800/600 GC's on my yellows in my integra are great.... but in a car that's got a shorter wheelbase, a car that's a bit lighter, and a car that will never see any track time, i wanted to view other options. i'd do the koni/gc setup on this car too but i'm not willing to spend that much money.

if i can get something "good enough" to suit my needs for $550 or so... i'm in...

so... any crx'ers with these on?
