hello, and take a deep breath before reading this one. i am 24, living in suburban NJ. i grew up with little cash, made it through school, and work with computers for a living. i never knew anything about cars. when i got a 'real' job i was able to get my first new car.. with what little money i had.

when i was 17, way back in 1995, i learned how to drive on my girlfriend's mom's honda civic. i remembered that as being a nice car, so i went over to planet honda with that little money i had. i picked up a 2001 civic coupe DX, silver. i was happy, it was nice. then i learned of the unending things i could do to my car. i thought, jeez- i could do all the fun things i always wanted to play with on a car. i didnt know anyone or anything, so i winged it.

i installed my xenon headlights, which were really nice at night. then i saw .. please stay with me here .. the windshield squirters that had lights in them. a sucker for blue, i put them in. since then, to remain with a little blue, i put on a set of blue windshield wipers. thats about when i started to really get interested in my vehicle.. performance and all that. someone at work told me to come to this site- and i learned something- i might be what everyone on these forums is calling rice.. but maybe not..

from what i understand, this means trying to make you car look like something its not. (for example fast) i never thought about putting vtech rtype racing stripe powered by planet honda stickers on the car, or racing it anywhere, with anyone. i know damn well that i bought a DX, and it wont do anything special on the road. sure, i got the sony cd player for me, and the lights to have some fun.

am i this evil ricer boy you all speak of? give some advice... give whatever.. be gentle, because im not out there to be something im not, i just wanted to have some fun with the looks of the car. i was interested in the tail light replacements.. and i heard about this air intake thing. but after all these posts, i get the feeling that some people on the road will be looking at me with hate.

im not one to mind what others think, but i am interested. window tinting? id like that. new tail lights? air thing-a-ma-bob replacement? sounds good. so bottom line.. am i a ricer for just wanting to customize some looks- should i go back to factory everything simply because? should i pay attention to all this?

ok #1--breathe.
#2--damn what every one else thinks. do what YOU like.
#3--my neighbor (a girl) drives a 2001 silver civic EX. It dropped on 17" wheels and looks real good. there's a few things made for your car in the 'LOOKS' department. Not alot of 'GO' parts out there yet. Im sure someone will have a turbo out for is soon tho'.

There is a forum made specifically for the 2001 civics but the name escapes me as of right now.

thanks bishop- i know i should do what i like and ignore what everyone else might think- but i get this feeling by adding some eye attracting lights i have entered a world i am strange to. suddenly.. i feel like i am going about it all wrong. i mean, will this air filter really do anything for me? should i pry off my DX logo? (lol).. i know what most of you will say- get rid of the washer lights.. so you can skip that one unless you really want to slap me around. turbo.. sounds expensive. i dont have much money at any given time, but im willing to go the distance to improve the vehicle. im about done with cosmetic mods, becuase im almost overkill in my eyes as it is...
