anyone have arai rx7 corsair, noisy or not?
is it tolerable or do you need air plugs? i real like the ventilation of the helmet and if its a little noisier then some of the other stuff i have had maybe its worth it
i have had
hjc CL 12
hjc CL 14
shoei TZ1

It is a little on the noisy side at highway speeds, but nothing major. I love the ventilation it provides for the top of my head (it's knda like A/C), and it's pretty lightweight. I plan on starting to use earplugs, not too much because of the wind noise, but because of my exhaust.

A helmets a helmet. If they're like safety approved from DOT and whatever the hell Euro specs are. Anyway, I'm on my 2nd RX-7RR (older model Crosair) because its pimp. Immortal's is pimp too. Click on my handle.
A helmet is not just a helmet, especially when you're trying to compare high end qualities like comfort and noise.
The most quiet helmet I've ever tried or heard about at the shoei rf-900/1000.

Can't deny quality. Arai's are freakin jewel like
As for comfort... dunno... my friend loves his KBC because he says its sooo much more comfortable than his Shoei. I think he's a crack but thats just my opinion. Arai makes different shaped helmets for different shaped heads. You gotta admit, people have vastly ranging shapes. So it only makes sense to have differently shaped helmets available for their customers. Don't just get a Corsair because its the most expensive. Its may not fit you the best. Try on the different shapes.

The Arai RX7 Corsair is the most high-end Arai that is sold. It features THE MOST ventilation out of all their helmets. Thus, you can expect a LOT of wind noise. If you aren't wearing ear plugs with this helmet, then I guarantee you will suffer hearing loss. Unless you ride at 10mph.
There's always some give and take. Either your helmet doesn't flow as much and isn't very loud, or it flows a LOT and is noisy. The only counter-example I can think of is the Schuberth, but I haven't met anyone who has one to ask them.

i do, thats why i posted. i know there is no way im going to wear ear plugs i run equipment and gotta wear them bitches all day at work. and a far as suffering hearing loss, i know people that dont even wear a helmet
and have been riding for a very long time and havent suffered any perment hearing loss. these things have to be better then riding with no helmet right?
as far as comfort i have tried like hell to make the shoei X11 to fit me right but it just dosnt fit my head shape, my TZ1 does but dosnt vent good enough. Went to the motorcycle show this weekend and could not believe how perfect the corsair fit, equally snug at all points
thanks for all of your opinions

You're right. With stock exhaust, you probably won't be needing them on local streets. But on the highway, its more wind than exhaust note.
And I'll tell you a little secret on helmets. There not all made identically. From my '02 RX7 to my '04 RX7... they're supposed to be identical but they're night and day. My '02 red Edwards was quiet as a whisper. My '04 is loud as hell. There's just some part on the helmet that leaks in air somewhere and it whistles like crazy on the freeway. But I guess thats actually normal 'cause I tried on 3 other RX7's and they all do that. I guess my '02 was a "lucky" one. Just wish I hadn't sold it to my friend.

I wonder if there is some way to telling how loud / quite a helmet is going to be without going and jumping on your bike and ripping down the road? My AC-11 is preatty loud but its not the best helmet, was middle of line...

I guess you can take a can of compressed air w/a air nozzle and have someone spray your *** with it while you try on all the helmets
Sounds stupid but I think it's a great idea.
Or get a scroll fan (the ones that mechanics use for cooling parts down or just cause its a warm day. You can pick one up from MAC Tools for under $100) and turn it on while you try them helmets on again. I think those fans blow about 50-60mph.
