Default Rebuilding ITR Trans

Ok its time for a rebuild of the ITR trans (again) mainly 3rd gear issues.

For those that have actually done it. Are there any cost effective alternatives to the OEM parts? I am looking for some sort of Syncro Kit or something like that.
It looks like they might have something here:?

Anyone have any suggestions?

man from what I've heard, it would probably be cheaper to just get a new tranny. You can pick a used one for around 1k. I guess it depends though, if its just one syncro and that's all you want to replace, then just get it fixed. If its time for a complete rebuild (you may as well while its apart), then just grab a used one.

also, if you want to upgrade the parts while your at it, then there are several companies that supply aftermarket tranny parts. I've never used anything other than stock, so you may want to search and see who other's recommend. good luck

Have you looked into SMSP's syncros?

Hey Matt..I'm in the same predicament right now..whether to rebuild, or buy new. I decided to buy new and rebuild my old one later. I'll be ordering mine in a couple of weeks.

When I was considering a rebuild..I was going to go with GearSpeed carbon coated synchros, I believe they were in the range of about $230-250 for a complete set. The rest of the stuff I would go with OEM parts if I were you. I got a price of about $1650 for a stock rebuild from GearSpeed which includes the carbon coated synchros. You can get a brand new trans from Acura for $1699 plus shipping $45.

I suppose a rebuild is going to depend on the shop...but i had a spare rebuilt for $650 WITH all new synchros. Now...IMO, if you cannot find a shop offering a price as such search for a used one which as stated above you can generally find for anywhere between $1k and $1300 depending on condition, mileage and FD.

I vote for diy + gearspeed carbon coated syncro's.

Add whatever gearset you want while she's apart (ATS = yummy!)
