Default Thinking of buying a s2k

Hi honda-tech.

My names jess im from TN.

I currently lost a 2004 Lancer Evolution. It was a sad day to see it go, my mom sold it back to the dealership after many run-ins with the cops. She paid for the car but I still treated it as my own. now they are making me pay for my own vehicle. I went looking at s2000's today, and i love there body lines, the feel of that 6 speed gear box. I dont have alot of money and im looking for a used s2k.

what year model do you all suggest?
u suggest going to a dealer or buying from individual?
some pros and cons of the s2k....

just give me your insight....thanks you all, and it looks like im going to enjoy honda-tech.....

you should buy an automatic 1989 mazda 323 until you appreciate having a license and learn some responsibility.

that aside,
what kind of money do you have to spend on one? if money is the issue, you'll be looking at 2000's w/ high mileage.
just to give you an idea, i bought mine for 17k w/ 43000 miles on it (a 2000 silverstone one)

if money is an issue the S is NOT the car for you.... insurance is going to be high if you've had a lot of runins with the cops.... and you'll be going though tires quite quickly. and maintenance is not cheap on this car. not to mention how expensive it's going to be for you to mod it, if you're into that stuff..

Sounds like you have a lot of experience when your mom makes you sell your car cause you keep getting tickets.

I have my experience. I have 2 cars 96 SOCH VTEC...the evo (sold) and that sentra. Ive been driving the sentra....

but money wise....Im paying for just the s2000....I dont have any more law problems...My mom pays insurance, cause i do work for her to earn it. I will have to pay tires/oil/upgrades/and etc....but I think i can do it....I can afford about 500/month payments....Im looking at black or silver....

i think what everyone one is saying is that you dont seem mature enough to own an s2000 or evo......

i dont think that the s2k is going to be a better alternative than the evo......

i.e. its rear wheel drive and definately harder to contol at the limit than an evo w/ awd..... plus its considered a sports car and the insurance will be higher, especially w/ your so called run ins with the law....

with any of these cars you need to be able to exibit self control, so you dont injure someone else or yourself......

Oh I agree.

I do need to exibit self control....

and agian, Insurance is not a problem...Ive never had a wreck, never got a speeding ticket...My dad is involved in law inforcement, and saved my *** a few times...But....i do agree with you , its not an alternative...but my mom isnt buying the car...I am...she thought she was paying to see me kill myself...lol...but its not like that no more....i dont break the law much anymore...kind of pointless, but i do agree with you cmdr430

You dont need an S2000 man, your 16 years old, get yourself something with a little less power, that cost a little less money and allows you to build your driving experience, i KNOW you are not experienced, nobody is at 16 years old unless you've been running track for years and years, obviously you havent or you'd have more respect for cars and you'd still have an Evo to drive. Im honestly suprised you'r mom bought you a $30K sports car when you were 16, i know my kid wont ever see that, even if i had all the money in the world i wouldnt do that.

Anyways...go get yourself an RSX or Si or something, learn how to drive a little better, get some REAL time under your belt (talking years) then come back and look at the S2000, trust me man, if you have any plans of becoming your own person out of high school and you want to get away from mommy paying your bills, you wont want a $500+ car payment. That and your mom is going to have to help you with it because you WONT be able to finance it, you cant even have a title in your name at 16, so again, your mom will be helping you with all of it.

Get something inexpensive, but if you must have new, go with something more oriented with your lack of experience driving and age...something with an FF platform would be good so that you have more control over the car, something with much less power would be good...

Learn some responsibility, you can tell me how you have all day long, i can tell you that you havent, not if you just got out of an Evo because of immaturity, and your looking towards an S2000...

Well...something that i have kept with me for years that i'll pass to you because maybe you havent heard it before, just because you have the money to PAY for something doesnt mean you can afford it...a bum with $10 can pay for a bottle of jack daniels, but if thats his $10 for a while (which you never know what you could NEED your money for tommorow) he cant really afford to spend his $10 on the booze. You may have $500 you could spend monthly on a car, i dont doubt that a bit, but think about it...you do eventually want to take the responsibility of paying for insurance yourself right? I certainly hope so...and when your done with high school youd like to get out on your own right? Even if your not thinking college (which most people should just in my opinion), you want to have your own place eventually in a couple of years...check this out.

Get yourself a car that DOESNT cost what the S2000 would...maybe a Civic or a prelude or something, take the difference in payment, start paying your own insurance, your learning right there...responsibility...or even better, get yourself something much cheaper, pay your insurance and start saving for when you graduate, have a nice chunk of change to get you your own place and then have a decent car, your own crib and go to school...to me that would be the best choice you could make.

But thats just my opinion, maybe you dont want to have those things, if so, just speaking on cars themself, the S2000 is an awesome vehicle, it takes experience to really drive the car how its supposed to be driven, but when you do its incredible...saying that, you really dont need one.

ya dude, ild say if youre 16 and have the money to get an s get something else easy to work on and youll have plenty of money to mod it. if i was going to mod a honda ild like the hatch they had right before the current one.

plus i think parts are limited with s's.

ps---- when i say mod with the money difference from an s to a used hatch youll be able to build a boosted beast.

Also, just to be blunt (and this is in no way a reflection of anything you said, just an assumption based on what high school was like when i was there)...dont like the pressure of popularity make you want a car you have to spend tons of money on, because once your out of there, it doesnt matter anymore man...i had friends that were spending so much cash on brand new cars in high school, and they were working their tails off trying to keep payments up, couldnt afford insurance on their own, and they were just doing it because it was the "cool thing to do". The girls grow up, the popularity fades into people striving to get through college or get into the work force...and then there you are, an 18/19 year old with a $500 car payment, not enough money to pay insurance, and people that cant go out on the weekends because their writing term papers and what not...

And...

Not limited, expensive.

Just a little free advice is all, im long winded so excuse my long responses, take the first step in responsibility and DONT get an S2000.

If I had an evo I would put a BIG OL HUFFER on it and make 500whp. gettin rid of that for an s2000 was pretty dum.

If you get an S2000...the first thing you should do is either enroll in a high performance driving program with the car, or heavily participate in HPDE's, or High Performance Driving Educating meets. These take place in legal environments, and for the most part, you can push the car has hard as youre willing to.
Since I have done a few of these(not w/the S yet), I believe any kind of speed over the speed limit on public roads is just retarded. You do one of these per month, and youll have your "fix". After that, youll drive pretty much like everyone else on public roads, except be a lil quicker stop-light to stop-light(but not breaking speed limits), and youll learn to leave yourself more "room" in traffic. If it werent for these classes, I wouldve lost my F150 to an Explorer that lost control in the middle of a highway. I narrowly missed him because I was planning ahead, which you have to do at an HPDE around other cars on the same track.

Just my advice/experience. I too have had fast cars when I was young, and luckily my "run-ins" with the law have been very few and far between, although when I was younger, probably shouldve been more severe...
