Default HF motor Question

I was thinking about doing some stuff to the hf motor for kicks since I have an hf to commute to work.

Besides intake, exhaust....is there any thing cheap I can do? I was thinking about a manifold? what do you guys think? and which one will bolt right in?

Well if you plan on doing the HF up for kicks and are planning to install another SOHC motor in there in the near future you can do the following but remember The D15B6 motor and drivetrain is severly restricted in terms of performance by design.

FOR MAX GAIN - OEM(Relative)
1) D16Y8 Intake Manifold and B18A1 Throttle Body
2) CAI
3) Any aftermarket exhaust manifold (just nothing too wild)
4) SI Transmission
5) Switch over to D15B2 Pistons so you can use a 16 Valve head
6) Install 16-Valve head of choice, VTEC even

FOR SOME GAIN
1) D16A6 Intake Manifold
2) SI Airbox and Intake Tube
3) D16Y8, Z6, or hell, even the A6 exhaust manifold
4) DX Transmission

For the modifications I have listed they will are swappable to any other D-Series motor so that way if you do choose to swap your motor and stay SOHC you can re-use them, sans #5 & #6. If you ever need help I am in the UM area of Miami.

I have an HF. If I was ildling and wanted to do some work, I would prolly pull the engine, check the rings, perhaps re-ring and hone cylinders, have a good standard vavle job done put it back togehter, new timing belt, maybe a few other things, change all the normal tuneup stuff, flush radiator etc and tune it back up.

Good practice for later work. My opinion trying to up the performance on an HF is a waste of time. The whole purpose of the motor was to get around 50 mpg on regular, which in todays times, with gas going up in price is a worthwhile thing and as good almost as any of the hybrids, and if you do a little work on the suspension it is still fun to drive.

You want more performance start with an old si motor and trans at a minimum. Drop right in and you can use your HF axles etc.

if i had my hf motor still and i had some cash, i would have replaced the pistons with p29's and then put y8 head on it with an agressive cam and skunk 2 im. h22 injectors and tb and cai with header. My .02 cents
