My ITR swapped VX is EATING ignitors!
Here's the story.
I've got a '98 USDM ITR swapped into my '94 VX. It has run great for the past 5 months (5K miles).
Recently I started getting lots of hesitation around 2K-3K rpms. I checked the codes and I'm getting a code 15. No big deal, I swapped out the ignitor for another from a '97 CRV swap I had laying around.
The car ran fine in the test drive. Then I took it out for some spirited driving in the country. Well, after a nice rip through the gears, the tach goes nuts, the car dies and won't turn on again. I pulled the code and got another code 15. I had to get it towed home.
I went to the local autoparts store and buy a new ignitor. It is specifically for a '92 Civic Si and resembles the CRV ignitor exactly. They are both made by NEC. The ITR ignitor was made by Hitachi.
After putting in the NEW ignitor and test drive it and everything was great! Then on the way home from church this morning, the thing starts crapping out on me. AGAIN! Tons of hesitation, no power, etc. The tach operates fine. Another code 15!
I've tried a new coil. I've checked all the grounds. The timing is dead one. Fuel pressure is perfect. I am not getting any other codes. Again, this car has ran flawlessly for the past 5 months.
I am thinking something is causing the ignitors to crap out.
Any ideas are welcome!!

No. All connections are good. The ignitors are dying, it's not just an intermittent problem.

i say try a whole new distributor and take it from there it could be the magnetic pick ups in the distibutor thats is making it go
i dont have any info to back this up; but for what i have seen; cars that have lots of ignitor problems is because of the dizzy being old/going bad.
i really dont know how the pick ups nor other sensors in the dizzy would cause the ignitor to fry, but...
instead of keep buying ignitors i would just replace the dizzy and be done with it.

sounds to me like the ignitors are probably not actually bad.
it's more likely something else.
I'd recommend trying out a different dizzy entirely,
and check your plugs/wires thoroughly.
I've had my ignitor crap on me,
and it does not affect the tach at all.
Also if you let it "chill" for a while, the problem will go away until you drive it for a bit,
I think it's like that with many other components.
so I'd say after the car craps out on you, try it again a day later and see how it goes..
and see how long it takes for it to crap out again.

i had this happen in my car at one point and i took an ignitor out of an oem ls dizzy and it's been running fine for 3 or 4 months so far just a thought
