Default d15b7 potential

I have been searching around for some threds or info on what folks have done with thier d15b7's, haven't found much of anything yet. I read in the swaps sticky that D series motors don't respond well to bolt ons and the only real way to go is FI, is that really the extent of it?

I am on a budget for now but I am interested in making the DX a performance car, I don't want to invest money into the D series though if it is going to max out at a relatively low performance level, ya know?

Anyone have any recommendations?

Id go with either a either gsr(b18c1) or a b18b engine swap. Both are easy to install, the b18b is about 2200 for the complete swap, and the b18c1 is 3149 for the swap, from hmotorsonline.com the gsr has about 30-40 more hp. A lot of people here will automaticcaly go for the k series, but since youre on a budget, and the k series swap would run you close to 10 g's.. i wouldnt recomend it. Go with a B series swap, theyve got a whole lot of potential, and have a lot of aftermarket support.

yea im gettin a gsr sometime this week; full swap with low miles and with some aftermarket stuff for $2800 but to go back to your question... i dont know about other people's motors but my d15b7 is called a "freak" motor by alot of people.

i wish i could tell you whats different about it but i think its the fuel or something thats making it faster than other d15b7's

i havnt had a chance to get it to the track or dyno yet but with just me in the car and in 1st gear it spins tires if i stomp the gas and cherps tires when i shift to 2nd and 3rd.... in a little d15b7

i was told that its all stock but it feels like it has a lightened flywheel because it revs up quick...

and now i have a ex tranny so it makes my hatch decent untill i get my gsr monday and put in sometime this week

i never took the head off to look at the block so i dont know if it has higher comp pistons/rods but when i had my autometer a/f ratio gauge in it said it was running rich so i dont know if the extra fuel plays any part of it

all i have is I/H/E and ITR ignition wires that i know of

just get a d16z6 full swap, they are cheap. Get an ex tranny from a 96+ civic. Throw a pieced together turbo, get uberdata, and you have around 200-250whp(depending on tuning).

Eh..my bro ran a 16.0 in his dx hatch with that motor with intake, cat back and drag radials.

I think it would be much easier to just get z6 swap..my bro bought his full for $200 so its a good cheap way.

I have been looking into a swap, but like I said earlier, if I can do it, I would like to so I could save money. Do the z6's get decent gas mileage? Ill be going to college so while it will be a project to make it a street machine, I still need the decent gas mileage.

I'm leaning more towards a swap right now just because the mini-me seems to be about the biggest mod for the b7's.

This is my fifth post for the night I think so my limit is reached. Ill check tomorrow when I wake up to see if anyone esle added anything. Thanks a lot guys.

hey i run the same motor in my hatch, with the only mods done at the moment is CAI, and cat back exhaust...here is some sites that helped me out and i would hope would help u out as well
mini-me head swap
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=554053

SOHC upgrades
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=335078

i myself will be doing a lot of whats talked about in these writeups. the v-tec head swap, thinner head gasget to up the compresion, (btw the head will be ported and polished as well) full exhaust including header to get rid of the POS stockie. and also run drag radials...

If you drive it somewhat normally you wont see that much of a decrease in gas mileage.

Hell its a 4 cyl. youll be getting just as good of gas mileage redlining it every gear as some of the suv's out there

lol thats true...but the z6 compared to the b7 stock for stock does consume a bit more gas...

When i had my EG6 i was averaging 250 miles on a FULL tank compared to the EG8's b7 320 miles... I believe it's in the gearings but i dunno...

def take a look at bauleycivics writ up on the mini me, i did the swap and i love the feel of the vtec its nice to have some extra horses on the on ramps, dont forget another good thing about the minime swap is that its like a check up depending on how many miles your car already has on it. i did mine at like 163k and im now have 170k and shes still running strong

In all honesty, I wouldn't waste money with a mini-me swap again...i'd just go straight to boost.

if you're looking for a really cheap swap, go for the d16z6. its a SOHC, but it has good gas mileage (i went from a cavalier to a civic and the civic gets alot better gas mileage) and it has great potential

****! my b16 powered ef got me 350-360 to the tank on the interstate. from west virginia to northern jersey was 386 miles-i used to stop right before i got to the turnpike before newark in watchung to get gas. and i used to cruise too. don't worry too much about gas mileage man, it's still a 4 cylinder. small diffs but not that much
