Default lil diff. mini me & and things learned along the way...

Well I decided to go with something alil different and was a change from what I was gonna do. My z6 in my EG8 was a mystery to me and to the guy I bought it from here on HT. He got the engine since he had a b16 in it and sold and needed something in it just get it going to sell it easier. All I knew was that it has a slight coolant loss problem over a couple of weeks or so I thought. Then it started running hot. Like all the time. Then one day it just puked out coolant like crazy. Like as fast as I would pour it in it would just come right back out like it had some bad mexican food! lol. So I thought I warped the head from driving it in the red on the temp gauge a couple of times. So I pull the head and come to find out it had a Nuformz block gaurd and what I believe to be a Cometic headgasket since this wasn't no OEM MLS headgasket from how thick it was.I knew it was turbo'd before from the tapped oilpan but I thought that was just it. Eh..block gaurds. I'm not a big fan of them but since it's already there and I'm not sure if whoever put this in had the cylinder done with it in or with out and didn't want them to be not straight with taking it out. Then I did a new headgasket and threw a head on it that I was gonna use for a lil project. Since I wasn't sure if the old head was warped from overheating and how bad it pouring out coolant.
Originally I was gonna turn the HX head into a nonvtec setup and lock the roller rockers and permanently drive it on the primary lobe on a chipped p06. Anyways... That idea was on hold for now since I just needed a running car to get to work. So I threw everything together and before I threw in some coolant I cranked her over to see if she'd evening start or if there were any problems. She started right up and idled perfectly and purr'd like a kitten with no CEL's! Gave myself a pat on the back and then turned her back off and started pouring in coolant. Or so I thought.... drip...drip...drip ...WTF? Oh jesus the damn waterpump. Now if I was smart I would of just changed that when I had the head off. So now comes the fun part with the crankpulley bolt nightmares!!! Have the wife put it in 5th and step on the brake. I brace myself for a sore throat I'm gonna get from swearing trying to get this thing off. Here we go...Pop! Damn that was the easier crankpulley I ever did. Whoever did this last didn't even torque it down to I'd say even 40lbs. So I get everything off and get the waterpump off and the damn wheel wasn't even turning with the belt gear. Then it just fell of in my hands! Yikes Okay I'd have to say the pump was the problem after seeing this but I'm still a little leary on block guards. So time will tell to see if the guard is gonna give me any problems down the road.
So I got everything back together and then the moment of truth. Starting pouring in coolant. Pour a lil, quick look for leaks, pour, look, pour... Nothing! I top her off and then start her up and let her get to normal temp and then pour more in and then bleed it for airbubbles. Man I'm so relieved the block wasn't warped being how bad it was leaking before. Now the test is to see how the HX head is gonna be like on a chipped ecu. Hmm time will tell. Just gotta get some new lugs for my wheels and then I can test her out. Well I guess there isn't much here besides just a lesson learned and a whole lotta babbling . Though the HX head has a tad bit more aggressive cam than the y8 hard to believe. Plus with this ecu before I could tell right away when vtec activated so I'm hoping for something good but if not atleast I got a running car! lol Here's two before and after pic I took of the z6 with the head off showing the block guard. I'll update this on how it running with this head on ecu in a day or two. Notice on the radiator that orange rust that was from the overheating. The coolant that poured out that was left in it was rusty colored and not even a hint of green. Whew this post was long! Sorry...

After...

Whats it's sitting in..

They go in between the cylinder walls and the block. It should normally look like the cylinders are floating or not connected to the block.

Block guard is usually for FI apps. Its like sleeving but way cheaper and doesnt involve taking out pistons. You just hammer them down.

Dude you need to space out your writing.... my eyes hate you right now

hahahah sorry. I'm usually a run-on madman and make like paragraph sized sentences so I'm working on it. English wasn't one of my strong classes in school.

He knew the guy had it boosted before but didn't know about the block guard or the headgasket. Anyways, I got her on the road and wow! You can tell right away when vtec kicks in and it drives fine with no bogging at all on the p28 running on 3 valves until vtec and the 4th valve opens. Plus with it I should hopefully see maybe a little better get mileage too !
