Just bought a Theft Recovery civic... anyone know the car prior theft?
I picked up this 98 EX 5spd with 62k. A lot of stuff missing. needs door, both bumpers, and fender repainted.. needs a fender replaced as well. Also has lots missing on the inside. I do have 3 parts cars, so thats not a prob
This thing was pretty nice before it was stolen. I found before pics of it in the trunk.... along with some girlfriend pics
anway its an IL car, but the guy went to FL Univ I think.
I will probably be selling the tails and coilovers and putting it back to stock to resell it.
lets say I put it together 100% stock and 9/10 condition wise.. still has prior salvage title, with 62k about what is this thing worth in honda-tech world?
did all EX civics have Vtec? does this one? How do I tell?

Yup; and the 6th gens (EKs) did not have VTEC on the valve cover.

The question comes up alot on the 6th gens if the car has VTEC because it isn't on the valve cover. The car does have VTEC, but the valve cover for those cars doesn't hve it cast onto it anymore; as the previous generations did.

even if it doesnt say vtec on the valve cover. a vtec solenoid on the motor would be a dead giveaway.

My 93 d16z6 coupe does NOT have vtec on the valve cover. so i would assume this statement is correct

I have both, a '97 DX with an EX motor and stock a '97 LX.
it goes as follows
4 door DX, LX = D16Y7 engine = non-Vtec
4 door EX = D16Y8 engine = VTEC
Stock '96-'00 SOHC civic don't have Vtec written on the engine.
It's pretty easy to see if it's a vtec though. Aside from the vtec solenoid, there's also a different intake manifold (side mounted throttle body), shorter throttle cable, etc....
The easiest way though is just to look at the papers and check what model it is.
I don’t know if you can get a lot for it, even after putting it to stock (because of the salvage title), but it might make a nice hobby car/daily driver for yourself.
