So my eg is getting ready to go in for a new paintjob.. and I want to completely hide my radio antenna. I shaved my stock antenna 6 or 7 years ago, in favor of a fuba roof mount short antenna. Im grown tired of it long ago, and plan on getting rid of it when I do my repaint... but I still want good reception on my stereo.

Anybody have any good ideas?..

He already changed his antenna, and he still wants to have the radio so that won't work.

So you're saying you want to have an antenna but not a visable one? The only one I've seen like that was an antenna that was actually IN the front windshield and that was on a REALLY old suburban. I don't know if you can do that with a civic. You might wanna try asking in the audio forum. But bump for some help.

I used to have a windshield antenna in my 70' El Camino, and kinda half *** looked for one for the Eg, but never came up with anything.

I Use a block off plate on my 93 hatch. I unplugged the antenna at the back of the radio and bought a 1 foot flexible antenna and plugged that in the radio. I ran the antenna behind the glove box and zip tied it in place as close to the winshield as I could. I get about 90% of the reception I got before.

 

how about the setup the 2k+ 4 door got? in the rear windshield or something like that.

 

Not tried it b4 but on the 7th Gen civics, the rear defogger works as an antenna too. If you try a DIY conversuion make a write up, I wanna know too if it works.

 

I don't know how well the reception is, but http://www.autothisworld.com has a hidden antenna that you can hide uner your fender or behind your bumper. Mercedise also does this with alot of their cars. So if you could find a wrecked mercedies at ajunk yard you could use that antena. but you have to cut it and splice it with your antena wire. I have tried this and it worked well, but make sure the splice job is good. i hopes this helps.

I've been using a glass mount.Its mounted inside the windshield above the mirror.It was around $30 at pep boys.The reception is about 80 percent as good as the stock mount.

Metra makes an internal antenna that you attach to your rear glass at the top on the inside. I don't know about the reception though.

I'm in the same boat as you. One idea my buddy had was to splice the antenna wire that connects to the headunit and ground it in a couple of places on the actual chassis of the car thus making your whole car an antenna. Has anyone done that?

 

Run a wire antenna through the dash(side to side) or s2s under the wiper tray. also,you may want to check out an antenna booster. talk to stereo pros, that's a pretty common mod.

 

Cleanest way that would work the best would be to source the parts from a newer civic. The parts usually consist of a floor harness, an antenna box, and a stick on antenna of some sort. The 7th gen's weren't the only ones to employ the rear window antenna. The 4 door sixth gens, The cl's and Tl's all had this setup. It shouldn't be that hard to source the parts.

 

The hidden antenna looks nice, but it's $70 bucks. I went to checker and found a flexible rubber, universal antenna for like $12 or $13. It worked just fine.

my friend has a 99 cl and his antenna is in the rear window like a defroster, im sure thats not too expensive.

 

i shaved the antenna on my coupe when it got painted.i used a powered interior antenna from Metra.it just has a 12v hookup that you connect to your ignition lead for your head unit,then it plugs right in like a regular antenna.i have it mounted to my rollbar hoop.works better than stock,and can't be seen.
costs about $20-$30 i think.you can get tham at about any electronics store(Best Buy,Circuit City,local car audio shops)

have you ever tried your radio with the stock antenna pushed all the way in?may work if you're in the radio station parking lot.after getting mine shaved,i tried mounting the stock antenna under the A-pillar cover just for ***** and giggles.it worked about half as good as having it pushed all the way in while regularly mounted.might as well have unplugged it.
the powered interior Metra is the way to go.
