But I can't get the screw for the slid hammer to take. It just wont screw in. I've tried many different screws and they just wont screw into the manifold.

Anyone else encounter this problem?

 

Maybe you didn't drill deep enough into the plug? The first dealer I worked at, we would just drill thru the plugs and then run a tap into them and use a 10x32 machine screw. We had replacement plugs in stock. If you don't have replacement plugs on hand you can reseal the hole you drilled and tapped by using locktite on short 10x32 machine screws. A good tip also is to tap the plug in with a punch, just a little bit, to break the plug loose and it makes it easier to pull out with the slide hammer.

 

what about metal shavings falling into the mani if you go all the way thru? and could you seal it with silicone?
