Supercharger Questions? Current Set-up Plan (comments, Q's, advise)
Ok I've Own 2 Prelude before. A 1992 Si w/ 4WS then a Base model Gen 5 Lude on both lude Ive kept an All motor applications. Im about to get into another Prelude after selling my FD and I'd like to go w/ some forced intuction. I've decided to go w/ a supercharger Preferablity Jackson. Ive been looking around at new and used ones..
My questions are How long does an Supercharger last?
What kind of maintenace is involed w/ owning a supercharger?
Can a Stock H22a4 reliably run on 6 or 7 psi w/ a supercharger?
What other mods would be "recommended" to enhance and provide an effiecent supercharger set-up on a H22a4?
Also would you recommend an ECU upgrade and if so which ECU?
My goal is to just have a everyday driver w/ 230+ WHP Im not trying to have the fastest Lude around just something I can toy w/ till and have even when i get another FD. If anyone has a Jackson Supercharger and you can help me out w/ some advice or tips e-mail me @ jconcepcion@pinnaclefinancial.com.
Right now Im thinking of running a Jackson racing supercharger w/ a DC 4-1 Header, CAI, 2.5 exhuast system, V-AFC, Fuel pressure regualtor, 370 RC injectors, and I was thinking of doing some Skunk2 Cam Gears and shafts but if i decide to run that I'd like to raise my redline so i would need to upgrade valves, springs retainers, ect.. and of course an ECU upgrade. Do you guys think that would be safe to raise the redline that high, w/ the head work and Supercharger? Those are some question and idea's that are running thru my mind right now if anyone has some comments, advise, or tips I'd really appreaciate it..

The blower is warranted for 100k miles.
Maintenance is no different, except you should consider changing your oil more frequently than what is called for in the owners manual.
Yes, if set up right, it is very reliable.
Mods I would recommend:
programmable engine management
550 cc injectors
cold air intake
high flow cat
J&S Safeguard
NGK 3330 (BCPR7ES) spark plugs, gap them at .028-.030
Stick with the stock exhaust and header, and get a high flow cat that bolts up. Anything else is just way too loud with the blower, and you really don't need any exhaust mod other than a high flow cat. Get programmable management, like Hondata. 370 cc injectors will be too small, go with 550 cc. You won't need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator or a VAFC. You won't be able to use adjustable cam gears, there will be no way to get to them to adjust them with the blower kit in the way. Stick with stock cams. You don't need any head upgrades. You don't need to raise your redline. If you want more power, get a 9 psi pulley. ABSOLUTELY get a J&S.

Thanks for the info how much was the J&S Safeguard?
Do you know if the Dyno Sheet on the Jackson racing page is just a Stock H22a4 w/ a supercharger or does the h22a have BPU's?
do the 550 injectors work w/ my stock fuel rail?
I read somewhere w/ a Supercharger I would be able to drop my VTEC point to 3k w/ some device Jackson racing offers? Would i benifit from that or is it not worth the money? When I get my Next Prelude i plan on doing the basic's since the supercharger won't be coming for a month or 2 after i get the Lude but i like to start getting the compents I'll be needing to run supercharger set-up reliable.
For the BPU's i want to get which Ive had before CAI/ DC Header/ full exhuast 2.25 piping w/ 2.25 muffler inlet and V-AFC tuned for the BPU's how loud would it the supercharger be w/ a set-up like that?
Thanks for the info I really appricate it. IM really looking forward to getting another Prelude again can't wait to mod it.

A brand new J&S can run about $400, but you can always pick one up used for less.
I'm not sure about Jackson's dynos, I thought they had a few up with descriptions of what was installed for each.
Yes, 550 cc injectors work fine with the stock rail.
You can get the vtec engagement quite a bit lower than normal with the blower because of the amount of air being pumped through. If you get some sort of standalone, like Hondata, you won't need any sort of vtec controller because the standalone will be able to control it. With a standalone, you wouldn't need a VAFC either. I highly recommend getting a standalone. You won't be able to run large injectors without a standalone.
A full 2.25" exhaust would not be as loud as 2.5", but it will still be louder than you would expect with the blower.

Thats cool. I planned on doing a Standalone system anyways w/ the Blower set-up I like to do. As far as the noise? I don't mind it my friend had a Jackson Racing Supercharger on his GS-R and it wasn't that bad. I don't plan on doing this set-up and racing all the time but I'd like to know i have some power there and I do like to attend the Track as well.
This might be a dumb question but Im assuming you have or had this set-up before hows your gas mileage w/ the 550's and blower?
Also what kind of WHP should I expect from the set-up your are recommending to me? Also what 1/4 times shoudl i be expecting w/ that set-up as well.
Again thats for the info its very helpful

1. Absolutely go with a stand alone system, I'd recommend Hondata.
2. IMO, 550 injectors are a bit overkill, but better to big than too small.
3. Other than checking your belts, there is no additional maintenence.
4. I would suggest 2.5" pipe, damn the noise. Add a res if it's too loud for ya.
5. I drive pretty hard most days, and I still average 25mpg.
6. From what I've seen around here, 210-240 Whp is average. I guess I'm a bit above average for the SC setup.
7. Keep your stock cams.
8. The J&S would be a very good idea, but not a necessity.
9. 3K Vtec is way low, most people find that 4500-4800 is the sweet spot.
10. Get your lude to a Dyno ASAP and tune, tune, tune.

sharkcohen will set you straight.
Also, there are like 1000s of articles and posts already that cover this, fyi.

Thanks for the info guys... I was trying to search but nothing came up for supercharger or jackson racing?
01 LudeDude What size in injectors are you running also hows your Lude sound while your just cruise is it that loud? I have a video of me racing my old lude it was sounded loud I can post a link and you get let me know if how much louder your Lude sounds so i can get somewhat or an idea of what it'll sound like..
And I definitley doing some tuning when i get the SC set-up all on Also its installing a supercharger hard cause I do plan on doing it myself?
The lude im getting has 65,000 its a 2000 H22a4 engine. I plan on doing the timing belt check the valves water pump, fuel pump, Get a gasket kit and replace all the gaskets on the engine pretty much do all the maintenace at once and make sure before i install the supercharger everything is in good shape w/ the engine I'll be able to find out as I install att the gaskets and belt. Is there anything else I should replace of check before I continue w/ the supercharger set-up? Im thinking i should replace the tensioner as well since Im doing all the other stuff?
But I plan only only running 7 psi cause i don't want anything to mess up w/ the engine. Sharkcohen w/ that set-up you recommended for me would it be safe to run 9 psi?
Again thanks alot for the info guy its really helping me out w/ my "project"

Agreed.
9psi with stock pistons(compression)will probably be the upper limits of safety with pump gas, but it sure would kick ***
I'm running with the stock 6psi pulley.
As far as noise goes, mine is a bit on the loud side. DC 4-2-1, 2.5" custom pipe, no cat, 18" res, and a N1. I drove it without the res for several months, and it was hella loud. I just couldn't take it after a while, plus I was getting ready to drive to Fl, about 1K miles each way, and didn't want to listen to that noise for 14 hours, lol. It's tolerable now. The only time I'd say it's quiet is at idle, cruizing at 80 (4K rpm) it's noisey, but sounds good IMO. Just don't buy an N1, get something that will actually muffle some sound and you'll probably be able to tolerate it.
BTW, I'm running 370's W/ an FMU. If I was to do it over again, I'd have got the next size up from 370's and not used an FMU. Would have made tuning a bit easier.

hey 01 Lude, what are you using for management right now?
EDIT: Oh wait... read the sig.. duh.. hahaha... nevermind the question

Thats cool I think I'll just stay w/ the stock 6psi for now. Do you guys have any traction problems? Launching? Do you have an LSD? Im asking both Shark and 01lude dude....or anyone else w/ a SC set-up
Also Should i run a stage 2 or stage 3 clutch?
I think thats about it for now thanks alot guys
BTW do any of you guys have 1/4 times w/ your current set-up Also 01lude dude 241WHP on a mustang dyno very impressive you might be close to 250 on a DynoJet

No. Yes.
No. Yes.
I have a hard time launching, lots of wheel hop (no LSD). Getting some PZeros next week, might help a little. I have to kinda feather the clutch in 1st, and then they always break loose again when I hit 2nd, but they always grab in 3rd.
I think the general consensus about Mustang Vs Dynojet is that Dynojet numbers are about 10% higher(hence the 265 in my sig). I'd like to get it on a Dynojet just to see.
A stage 2 clutch will be plenty IMO.
I haven't got to run mine yet, so no 1/4 times.

Thats what I thought i mean w/o LSD I'm seriously considering getting a LSD like Quaife. Thats cool Im curious to see what your running if your having traction problems I would get a high 13 low 14 im sure you'll trap around 105 or so also depends on the track your at.
Are you running a stock flywheel would you recommend a Lighten Flywheel for a SC set-up on the Lude?
Also Ive been doing some research are ive seen some cons such as high intake temps(could that be dangerous? if so what can i do to help that problem, also Ive read about peoples belts coming and peoples engines going to sh*t? have any of you (shark or lude dude) had any problems and if so how could they be prevented?

I don't know, I haven't dynoed it. I have a wideband O2 setup, so I've tuned it myself. Also, I have an auto tranny. I can tell you that it's more powerful than stock, and more powerful than 6 psi. I don't give a **** about the numbers. Numbers are for bragging rights

You really should actually put it on a Dynojet before making that kind of claim. I've been in the Prelude JRSC culture for about 4 years now. I've seen ALOT of H22 JRSC dynos, and I can safely say you will not make 265 on a Dynojet at 6 psi.

You could be right shark, I was estimating. I do plan to hit a dynojet just to see the difference, soon as I find someone around here that has one.
