Default ls vtec blown

friend of mine blew his ls vtec because of a rod bearing and he would like to know if he could just take out the pistons from the bottom without taking ouf the head.. it seems harder but he's had lots of trouble with oil leaks whenever he took of the head and put it back on... he doesnt wanna go through that again thanks guys

if you try to take it out from the bottom you'll also need to take the crank out. much easier by removing the head.

you can not take the pistons out from the bottom. you MUST pull the head.

come on guys, do it right the first time. I assume you are redoing the block wihtout doing the machining? since you are doing it all while the block is in the car.

the best way to build it is machine it right. measure for proper clearances. new bearings that are to spec, check the crank if its damaged, if not micropolish it before measuring and assembly. and do a final bore/hone on the cylinder walls so the pistons are good in there and the rings will seal.

oh ya, dont forget to upgrade to a GSR oil pump.
