Default Heatshield for POD filters....which design stops HOT AIR ??

Hi,

I dont want to do a COLD air intake coz i fear hydrolocks...

I dont want to just thrown in a Intake coz it will suck in HOT air from engine reducing HP

So I want some sort of Heatshield but Dont know which design to choose and how it would be affective ??

1. Theres this one , the most common one, But I am not sure how it would actually stop the POD from sucking in HOT engine air as it is just covers half...How would it stop HOT air from engine ???

Then there this second one, How would this stop hot air from getting sucked in as filter is still in the engine bay ?? I have a 4th Gen Si (h22a going in)

These are all ebay heatshield

both of them are a awaste of money. if you want cold air without the true cai. just go to the hardware store and get some 3" plastic flex pipe like for a dryer or sumn and get creative. usually ppl put in there fog light spot.

Yeah, neither of those designs will work. What you need to do is make a cold-air "box" that completely encloses & seals off the filter portion so it will only pull air from below.

yeah you'd be better off getting a cai. if you get a short ram and make a little cold air box that sucks air from below, you'd be losing the benefit of the short ram (better throttle response) unless you cut out that hole leading to the resonator so it's bigger. It's relly not that much of a difference if you "suck in hot air" from the engine bay because when you're driving, cool ambient air is rushing through the engine bay and resonator area anyway. This is why i just have the short ram. great throttle response and good top end too.

i say get creative. Fabricate up some sort of cowl to direct air from the foglight area and add some piping. Or fab a cowl from the Front grille that angles into the filter or something. have fun with it man.

totally be creative!!! Fabricate some heat resistant material between your fender and battery area closing off that area. add some weather stripping to the top to somewhat seal out unwanted air.....you get the idea....

get a ram air and heat shield insulation. Jon has that on his 92 and damn does it work. its not pretty, but when the rest of his hood is hot to the touch that part is still cold as when he started the car.

Ghetto fab a cold air box, seal the edges so it will pull air from the headlights and the old airbox hole.

You can do a better job than me I'm sure. But I just don't care. Wow - thanks Douggie Poo. And who says it's not pretty!

The Eagles rock even more than my beautiful reflectively insulated cold air box.

yea i agree, sheilding makes it look stock, probably defeats all the benifits now because its probably gonna suck in the tin foil lookin stuff... anyways when its taking air that fast into the intake... its gonna be cooled down a lot b4 it gets to the motor.

you could get a replica j's intake from password jdm, or a real one....

theyre made of carbon fiber, so they will never get hot.....

the only thing is you will have to move the battery to get it to fit....

Looks and acts aren't the same. And besides - it's shinier than stock. The insulation I'm using is thick and heavy - not tinfoil, and it doesn't get sucked into the filter. It doesn't even budge.
I have a picture somewhere... oh well. Leaving WVA with snow and ice all over my hood, I drove for hours to get out of the mountains. When I stopped, my hood was dry from the engine heat EXCEPT for the area from the battery to the fender to the firewall. It was still frozen. So I don't think the purpose was being defeated. "Cooled down a lot" and "frozen" are a little different, don'tcha think?
