do you need more hp with a 1500lb(guessing) rail, and a 190 hp engine??

I wouldn't think so. Plus, figure it'll be making better power than stock 'cause of increases in intake/exhaust flow, and the lack of power steering & a/c. You could underdrive the alternator quite a bit as well - or go with a race one that doesn't push as many amps. Disabling the balance shafts is worth another couple hp.

So without even really "modding" it, an H22 would probably be up 15-20hp in a sand-rail app over a car.

And I would definitely recommend using a 4.7 final drive in there as well, since you won't need a 140mph+ top end.

do a search for that guy who did the carbon fiber Mini mold with the H22A4 powering it. I think it was posted on here and I forget the name. It was intended as a SCCA car IIRC though he said he would try to drag it once or twice to see what type of #'s it put down. Haven't heard anything about it for a while now though.

The balance shaft is purely a comfort item. It reduces what would normally be felt as a slight cabin vibration in a normal application. I ran my car without it and it was barely noticable.

The engine & ECU will operate normally without the wiring for the A/C, cruise control, and gauge cluster for sure... not sure about the fan wiring but I would assume it can go also.

As far as the gearing, a 4th gen tranny will allow a top speed of 140mph. This is with a tire that is 24" in diameter. Not sure how that relates to your application, but remember to consider the difference in tire size when deciding if you need to change the gearing.
