basic cb7 ?'s
I'm taking an internship in which i'm going to have to drive about 14-16k miles this upcoming summer, mainly from austin tx to the northeast and back. All I have currently is a sportbike, and as much as I enjoy riding it, i do have a spine to take care of. A couple friends of mine had cb7's back in highschool and beat the living **** out of them everyweekend without so much as a warped rotor, so i know their reliability. Before I pick up a 4dr ls teg to turbo, i figure it would be better to rack up the miles on another honda first, the cb7. Getting a 93 5-spd sedan with approx 100-120k miles. Add something to the list since I basically am only having a weekend to prepare the car for the journey and if it breaks down it's going to get complicated fast, so any common problems i should try to address will be welcomed!
Replace coolant/flush, check lines.
Change plugs/plug wires/air-fuel filters
Ohm test injectors [should last around 200k miles, anyone know the proper resistance(?)]
Check distributor [never even owned a car with one!]
Make sure clutch is good..should be obvious
Compression test
Check oil leaks/tranny leaks
Check up on the clutch fluid system [is it hydraulic(?), how many bleed pts(?)]
Check powersteering lines [guessing it will have powersteering]
Check wiring harness for no obvious decay
Check timing belt [guessing every 90k is replacement schedule(?)]
Check waterpump [maybe 120k mile=replacement for prevention(?)]
The suspension, alignment, and brakes will be obvious if they need attention, the suspension shouldn't need attention at the given miles, maybe the rotors. Do the stock exhausts have a tendency to decay/rot? That's all i can think of for now, thanks in advance for any help.

I'd also change the coolant in the radiator, maybe replace the radiator depending on what shape it is in. If youre driving 14k miles in the areas around Texas, it'd be a bitch to overheat. You can even add in water wetter or a drop of soap to lower the boiling point.
I'd also check the rotors on the car by braking on the freeway gradually...if the car vibrates it's new pads and rotors time. I'd also change the brake fluid.
Your shocks might be blown and your bushings may be shot but since this isnt a 'road racing' question you probably dont need those addressed at this point.
In your car make sure you retain your spare tire! Look in the archiveds for a long trip car thread, someone made a really good prep thread about what is needed to avert disaster

agreed on the rotors... my thinking is that they'll likely need replacement.
cv boots may be something to check into as well (not sure where in texas you are, or condition of the car, previous owner)
glad someone's thining about basic/preventive maintenance before all sorts of mods.

Yeah I mentioned the rotors/pads-radiator coolant, good advice on the highway technique, it's pretty flawless. I'm used to doing tons of preventative maintainence after owning 300zxTT's, working on honda's is easier than taking out the garbage. Haven't had CV boots since my old hatchback, good thing bringing that up and i'll look for the 'long trip' thread.
