Default Header swap then very bad fuel economy for a 98 civic

My manifold was cracked so I priced it and it was about 900$ canadian. So I figured that I would bye headers and a cadalic converter seperate to save some money. By doing this, I had to extend my secondary O2 sensor wires about 3 feet. Now my engine light ls going on. The OBG2 says that it's my secondary oxigen sensor. So I replaced it. Still comes on so I changed the primary oxigen sensor and it still goes on. I have a new air filter, rotor and cap, never touched the timing and don't know what else to do.

I have a 98 Civic EX (LX for the US) and the manifold and cadalic is in one piece.

Highly appreciate some help!!

what header did you buy? i have used aftermarket headers and they never req. me to extend any o2 wires. what did you use when you extended them? butt connectors? solder?

Check your wiring for the sensor if the code comes on right away. If it comes on after driving a while, then the computer is sensing that the O2 isn't in the right place and that something is wrong.

Sucks about those one piece cat+manifold, huh. They all crack, don't feel bad. I don't know about in Canada, but in the US there's a 90k mile warranty on emissions components. What do you have up there?

I bought the headers on E-bay and I'm not sure what kind they are. The headers is a 4-2-1 style then i have to add cadalic afterwards. I soldered the wires, used shrink tube to seal it and taped it afterwards. [IMG][/IMG]

Because it's a defect, they extended the warranty for 160 000 km's (about 90 000 miles). When I reset the light, it takes a little while for it to come back on.

I put on the headers myself with a buddy of mine and the mistake I did is I did not disconnect the battery. When I extended the wires, they touched it sparked a little bit. I hope that didn't hurt the computer.

A mechanic at Honda told me about a o2 simulator. Would that help?

"Sometimes extending the wiring with tarnish the sensors ability to accurate transmit info." - This is what I was told by a reliable tech. If I were you, I'd plug in an o2 simulator into the harness and leave the other sensor in the bung to prevent a vaccum leak. this is what I did after all attempts to rid my 99 dx of a code 41 were unsuccessful.

good luck
