OT: Got tickets to Formula 1 at Indy this year!!!!
sorry to brag, just real excited. We put our request in back in October and were told to call back in the middle of January. Well, my friend called me today and informed me that we now have Grandstand tickets and pit passes for all three days!! Sorry if this is too out there, just had to share

at least i can sit in front of the tv while the race is on and make 'vroom-vroom' noises and button-pressing (shifting) motions.
congrats; what section?
I was there for the inaugural event in 2000, it was great. But i think the race of the year for 2002 will be the ALMS at Road America July 4 weekend.

I was there in the grandstand up behind the short chute between T3 and T4 on the oval in 2000.
BTW, we need to get a MASSIVE group together for the DC ALMS race.

I'll find out what section tonight
And at the risk of going deaf, I am planning for no ear protection at the start of the race, I want to hear 20 cars screaming to 18,000rpm

I went in 2000 and 2001. This past year, I'd say maybe 2/3 as many people attended as did the inaugural event. Tickets were for sale everywhere on race day at or below face value (below in many cases).
You don't need tickets in advance for Indy for any race except maybe the Brickyard 400 where you'll pay a healthy premium for them, otherwise, drive up on race day and buy your tickets from scalpers if you can't get them in advance.

if you live near Indy, waiting is a good bet, but if you have to travel some distance to get to the race youd better have tickets in your hands....scalping is no guarantee, and what if you DONT get a ticket? I'd rather pay face value and have a guaranteed seat.
The 1st year, scalpers overestimated demands, 2nd year, 9/11 caused lots of people not to go, those problems arent likely to exist in 2002.

yeah we're coming from Virginia (6 of us) and we'd rather have tickets in hand instead of hoping to get some there or trusting people on ebay.

My wife and I went for $0.
We had guest passes from corner workers that they gave us. Went to the workers banquet Thursday night as well as all the end of day worker parties thru the weekend. Thursday got to walk the track including down the pit lane and got up close looks with several teams. Rec'd offical USAC Indy F1 hats... it was way cool.

not to brag or anything but I've got tickets to the Rolex 24 which includes, infield, garage and paddock access from Thurs to Sunday. About the only place I can't get onto are the hot pits but I can get up close in the garages the two days before the race starts.
I sat in C last year. For the inag. event I sat in B. It rainded the first year but we were dry in our section due to the overhang. B was cool , as it was next to the Ferrari pits. The little ear plugs are worth it! While there, the best thing to do is on the first pass, pull out your cell phone and call your house. Let it leave a message of them roaring through the main straight. This way you can listen to it all year round!! I love it!!
I'm trying to go again this year for 3 in a row!
Thanks,

Not to rain on your parade, but... that's called the 'Superticket' and anybody with $75 can get it. (For the Rolex 24, you can find details at this link.) That's one of the BIG things that separates sportscar racing from NASCAR in terms of spectator accessibility. A $75 ticket at a NASCAR race usually gets you a nosebleed seat in the grandstands and nothing else.

PS- If you want real pit passes for the Rolex 24, email or IM me...
