no vtec plz help
i have a 90 si with a jdm b16. the other day coming home my coil, cap, rotor went out on the high way i fix all of that but now my car wont go into vtec it will rev to 8200 but no vtec the ecu is not throwing any codes ecept my secondary o2 sensor which i havent had even when i had vtec i also change the distributor b/c the old went bad after the incident on the highway but i exchanged the ingnitor from the bad should i change it back? is there anything else i can check? and what does CEL mean?? thankyou n putback will help
so basically, you changed your distributor except for the igniter right? how do you know vtec isnt working? can't hear it anymore? which ecu are you running? you should check to see if you ecu is throwing any codes...could be that your vtec solenoid is bad. also, check to see that your timing is correct. if you have an obd0 ecu (pw0, pr3, zc ecu, or stock 88-91 si ecu) then there should be an led light on your ecu. when you turn on your car, that led light will show any codes that you may have. a long blink (about a second) means ten, a short blink (about half a second) means one. so if you see one long blink and 3 short blinks, that means its a code 13 (10+1+1+1=13). if you see 2 long blinks and 5 short blinks, that means you're throwing a code 25 (10+10+1+1+1+1+1=25). don't quote me on this, but i believe the code for the vtec solenoid is 22 (two long blinks, and two short blinks). btw, if you have more than one code there will be a long pause between sets of codes. also, the flashes will loop once all the codes are shown (so if you have a code 13, 22, and 25; it'll loop through those three codes over and over again).
if you are running obd1, you'll have to get a paperclip or a small wire to jump the ecu to see which codes you're throwing. i dont remember off the top of my head where that spot is but basically, you touch one end of the wire to one of the pins in the ecu, and the other end to a ground (bare metal of your car). since obd1 ecu's dont have leds on them, you'll have to look at the check engine light thats close to your speedometer. it works the same as the leds; it'll do a long flash for 10, and short flashes for 1.

i am running pure obd the ecu code i got is my secondary o2 sensor which is 2 blinks quick ones other wise i have no other type of codes could the vtec solenoid be plugged??? my buddy told me to put a paper clip on it to make the wires touch and see what happens the. also the car does sound like it does want to go into vtec but it wont..
