Defective oil rings?
As some of you know, I recently took my motor to a local shop to for a rebuild. My motor was burning oil after I got it back so I had the head pulled and there are deep scratches in my # 4 cylinder. I spoke to the shop about it and the owner claims he sees defective oil rings all the time and if this was the case, he would not fix my problem for free. Ive spoken to other specialty shops that just work on hondas and they said they have never seen a defective set of rings from Honda. I was just seeing if anyone else had come across a defective oil ring set from Honda.
He's pulling your chain. There was probably some residue/dust/metal filings/whoknowswhat left in the cylinder when the engine was rebuilt that caused the scratching.
I bet it was one of the scraper rings.. the two real tiny ones that go on either side of the spacer.
I've seen this happen when a Craftsmans ring compressor is used.
I prefer the KD Tools band and pliers type.
