Default Need advise: oil pressure vs. water temp gauge!

I recently acquired an HKS oil pressure and a oil temp gauge. The oil temp gauge can also be used as a water temp. gauge and it seems alot easier to install that way. To install the oil temp I would have to drill and tap my oil pan and that seems like a hassle. My question is are the benefits of having an oil temp gauge over a water temp gauge really that much? any other ways of installing the oil temp gauge properly without drilling the pan? I plan on installing these gauges on my ITR street/track car TIA-Gil

maybe this is a honda thing, but at least in my miata, we worry much more about water temperature than oil temperature. oil temp isn't even an issue.

I chose oil temp over water temp because the oil seems to take longer to get up to temperature than the water - I'd rather not be flogging my motor until I know that the lubrication system is ready (oil is up to temp). The combination of oil temp and oil pressure is ideal in my opinion, because you can easily keep tabs on the engine status (plus your car already has a water temp gauge - even if it's less than ideal).

Another good reason for Oil temp is that ITR's seem to run higher than average Oil temps (at least on the track). I have seen as high as 135+ degrees Celcius during a track session. As far as I know, they don't seem to have any problems with overheating the cooling system...

Oil temp monitoring is def. more crucial than coolant temp. With coolant temp, you already have a stock gauge. With oil temp it takes much longer to reach normal op. temps, sometimes up to 10 minutes of driving.

maybe your water temp guages are actually decent. the ones on our miata's aren't worth the space they take up.

i guess i shoulda known that, as my GSR water temp guage seems to work fairly well.

Definitely hook it up for oil temp. My OE coolant temp needle will be at full temp and the oil temp might only be at 50degrees, full operating temp under normal driving conditions is 85-90degrees
