2nd gear grind shortly after LSD + 4.78 FD install on b16 tranny
the car is a 94 del sol with an R long block in it. It is a track car only since i have bought a new car. anyways, recently i had an ATS lsd and JDM 4.78fd kit installed, also replaced my 3rd/4th synchro about 4 months ago. just yesterday and today i've had to drive it to work because my other car has been down. I first noticed it when doing a downshift to 2nd from 3rd, it grinded real bad. Now sometimes when doing an upshift it does it. other times its perfectly fine. it is completely unpredictable when it will do this grind. i've even test siting in one spot putting it into 2nd and it will some times grind, pedal still depressed, never lifted, it will then go in no problem. i'm wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this? btw i'm using the ATS gear oil in the tranny. the car is basically a track car so i hardly ever drive it on the street, which i think is why i never noticed it doing this before. i have not done any track time on it since the tranny rebuild. tranny fluid level is ok. anyone else have a b16 tranny with the 4.78fd kit?
thanks!

Dare I say when it was assembled, someone may not have put a washer, spacer or bearing on properly or at all? Just some conjecture. What tranny do you have?
the person i had do it i have great faith in. i know he has done these countless times. but i do know mistakes can happen. i was standing with him the whole time he did the work, however i'm not all that familiar with the insides of these transmissions, hence why i had him do the work. i do not recall anything being "left over" after all was said and done. it is very strange how it just goes from aweful grind to very smooth. i guess i'm just trying to avoid dropping the tranny again, its such a pain. the transmission is whatever comes stock on the 94 del sol vtecs w/b16a3. thanks!
go to autozone and pick up some syncromesh and run it for a week and see what happens you mite have nockd some crap loose when you pulled it appart and now it is doing it
