What causes a/c controls to break?
I have replaced my a/c controls twice in the past because they just break in pieces over time. Anyone have any idea as to what causes this? I don't punch my controls or anything. I just drive around and then notice that my controls have a crack....which then turns into a break and I have two pieces for an a/c control system. Any ideas?
I think it's simply the way they were designed. You have two major pieces, the temperature control ****, then everything else being held together with a small amount of plastic, usually where the cracks start. Then there are buttons to push instead of long levers such as in the hatches and four doors. Pressing buttons is going to put a lot more stress on the climate control than levers would. Then theres the slider speed control. On mine, it sticks a little bit and it seems to take a little more force than it should also putting stress on it. Again, a lever like in the hatches would make this a lot more smooth. I don't know if this makes any sense to anyone but me. But thats why I think the crx ones crack all the time and hatch ones are always mint.
yeah, its just poor reinforcement. the 2 pieces are held together with just that thin piece of plastic, that gets old, brittle, and cracks. me, when i replaced it, wrapped a zip tie around the back so it dosen't flex as easy.
