Default D-series Transmissions

Alright, I went and bought a 5spd trans for my 4spd car. Everything will fit, but I don't think the new transmission is out of a 88-91. The gentleman I got it from said it was, but I think he's wrong. When looking through a haynes manual, they only show this generations transmissions coming apart in tthree pieces. After about 20 minutes of trying to make this one come apart in three ways, I realized it only comes apart in two. So I'm wondering if anyone knows what this may be out of. I forgot the code I saw, but I do recall the first two places. It said "L2" and then digits of which I forgot to write down. It's a five speed transmission, and fits my d15 engine. It comes apart in two places. Any guesses off this? I'll try to post the code later today. Thanks anyone...
