Default Will you REALLY notice a difference with a 3 lb. lighter flywheel?

I have already lightened my stock flywheel to 12 lbs. I was wondering if its really worth the $400 investment on a Toda or Spoon flywheel for a 3 lb difference. I know if i went from the stock 15lb flywheel to a Toda/spoon 9lb or so flywheel a notice will be felt...but since im starting at 12lbs...would the money really be worth it?

I mean I could use the money for driving lessons, roll cage, race tires etc...but I want every available edge I can in accelerating...so if it will be noticeable Im all for it.

TIA

the weight is not the issue, where it's located on the wheel is.

YES to your question, if you opt for the toda

where it's located on the wheel is.
i.e. rotational moment of inertia.

If I was to go with a Toda flywheel, what negatives (other than the revs dropping quicker) will I experience, if any?

Depending on how serious you'll be regarding tracking the beast, save the money. Better spent on pads, fluid, tires, etc...

Jason- who will get a toda/exedy package in the future, but not anytime soon because he is broke

Forget toda/spoon/exedy/jun.
Get a fidanza/clutchmasters aluminum flywheel. 6-7lbs

Since we've been talking about the clutch issue for a while now, can anyone list out the name of the company, the weight of the clutch, and the price of the clutch on a list and maybe state your personally preference/experience on each of them?

Fidanza/Clutchmasters and Comptech flywheel = (lil over)6 lbs.
ATS 4.9 = Active Traction Service 4.9 final drive gear ratio kit.

Comment on the Toda flywheel,
It was worth it.

And since this is a thread about flywheels the 4.929 ATS certainly doens't need to be brought to the surface either.

"and what is an ATS 4.9?"

It is a 4.929 Final Drive gear that raises the FD ratio. Good for quicker acceleration especially when coupled with a lighter Flywheel.

Heres a link to a bunch of topics covering this: https://honda-tech.com/zerosearch

Good luck, I just secured my ATS FD from Yasu not 45 minutes ago, Now I'm off to order my Toda flywheel...

A.

I've got the Comptech aluminum flywheel. It's nice.
Combine that w/ the 4.92, and M had the description about right.. it revs like a bike. After driving my Integra, I get in my B20 CX (stock 99si tranny, b16 flywheel) and the gearing just feels DOG slow and it revs sooo much slower than my Integra.

I'd love to do a flywheel and 4.92 in the CX.. but I think the B20 will just spin through the first 3 gears. My Integra has a hard time keeping traction in VTEC even in 2nd gear due to the gearing.

My 2 cents is, the lighter the flywheel the better.

With several assuptions being made, you will "feel" an effective weight savings of 72 lbs in 1st gear.

You can find the formula for solving for the rest of your gears here.

if you want to know what your car will FEEL like with a lighter flywheel try this formula.

efeective weight = 1/2(Flywheel Weight)[(Fly. Radius x Gear x Final/tire radius)(fly. Radius x gear x final/trie radius)]

You have to square the second part of teh equation where you enter the gear ratio's so do that first. Sorry, i dont how to write in a superscript.

anywho, your car will fell a little quicker but not a whole lot. It will just make it a little more driveable. So if you already have a 12lb fly, probably wont make a difference. Give the formula a whirl and see what you come up with. I say stick with what you have.

by the way i got this from the october issue of SCC.

Yeah, yeah, lighter is better....BUT:

I ran my stock ITR with Comptech Alum Flywheel, Volk 15X7, 205 Hoosiers against another stock ITR on stock wheels & tires out of a low/medium 3rd gear turn onto a fairly long 5th gear straight. We were dead even till he let me by at the end of the straight. I was aghast - my wheels and tires were more than 8 lbs lighter per corner - I was sure that would be worth something perceptible. And no my ITR isn't a weakling, it's run decently against others on the straights of Buttonwillow.

There are MUCH better things to spend your money on.

Scott, who thinks alot of people expect way to much from too few pounds.....take a couple hundred off the whole car and now you're talking.....

I remember at summit point a gsr could hold me off in the straight but
he would be so slow in the turns.
I didnt have enough power to make a decisive pass and he wouldnt let me by.
