New Spoon Sports Coilovers
About 2 days ago I wandered into the Ogikubo district in Tokyo and made it all the way to Spoon Sports.... where I was greeted by a closed door.....
Thinking back to all the days I used to hang out at AJR.... I remember Ben telling me that Type One was just *down the street*
So I walked down the street a few blocks..and then some... no Type One.... <FAWKIN BEN>
I peered into the Spoon Sports garage and behind the heavily tinted windows....I saw some bling *** coilovers.... they appeared to be for the S2000.... From what I could tell they were height adjustable but also ....and this is new for Spoon.... length adjustable....meaning they had a bottom collar as well.
From in between the boxes.... somebody inside the building made brief eye contact with me.... this was my chance...I knocked heavily on the front door....
A Spoon mechanic presented me with a map to Type One.... It was printed on the back of the Honda Jazz product list offered by Spoon.
This map.....is a POS..... not only could I not decipher the Kanji.... the location and proximity confused the crap even out of the local police/gas station attendants....they all thought I wanted to go to Spoon.... apparently nobody in their own area knew where Type One or WHAT Type One was.....
So where was I?
I saw these ....what I THOUGHT to be the same coilovers at Type One but upon closer inspection...they were for EK9/DC2....in my limited Japanese and English...I was able to find out the new coilovers are brand new....now produced by Kayaba.... or to the USDM folk KYB....
The shop mechanic was not able to tell me much about them because he didnt have them on his car.... and the mechanic who DOES have them on his car was NOT in the shop....
Sorry for the long post.....on a thread with no pix nonetheless.... but Im stuck in Japan for the time being...and Internet here is hard to find....
Just keep in mind...that if you are considering Spoon Sports threaded coilovers....there are now TWO TYPES.
The black ...commonly referred to as the N1 damper...and now the NEW Kayaba model.... with bronze perches/silver bodies.... and offers 4way adjustability instead of the 5 way on the Showa/black/N1.
Price? A sobering 238000Yen..... refer to xe.com please....
Oh...but everything is 10% off right now....

some other interesting pieces to note....
but I did not have a chance to inquire about....
Spoon is apparently selling camber kits now...for the front....they are like the GenI Skunk2 units....but done in OEM black...
And there were a couple of headers hanging there.... 4-1 design.... with a SRD tag welded on the primaries..... Stone Racing Development....
Oh and ontop of the EK9/DC2 apps
They have S2000, EG6, Accord Euro R (CL7), Fit.... but curiously enough.... and to further fuel my hate for mac struts on Sport compact Hondas.... no app for the DC5.....
EDIT....juss checked on the info.... S2000 coilovers are 294000JPY while the rest are 231000JPY EXCEPT for the Fit at 189000JPY

The next time somebody brags about no snow in Japan, you need to remind them of this.

I remember using the direction from their website, and found it without much confusion. Just walk away from the JR rail lines and you'll see Type ONE after passing that used car lot filled with nsx, s2k, fairlady, r34
Sorry to hear about your misfortune Pat. But glad you eventualy found the place. My limited Japanese limited my Japanese sightseeing too, lol.
I-cafe is hard to find, at least it was for me as well. Have fun during the rest of your stay!

Didn't find the SRD headers that were supposed to be there?
Gonna post the pics as soon as I get a chance to get to a terminal where I can upload.....
I think next Wednesday?

Am I the only one who's a bit disappointed?
Those look like the KYB Super Special Gymkhana (Double Adjust Version) except the anodizing is bronze instead of green. Also looks like Spoon opted for OEM-style top mounts instead of the solid ones used by KYB. Otherwsie, they look like a rebadging of an existing KYB product.

Check out the new bling from T1R...
T1R Type-GR Suspension systems

"Developed for race use only. Full aluminum built with external reservoir. 50mm piston is used for huge tunability range. It also features 32 way bound and 25 way rebound adjustable. More information will be released soon."
Now this I really like! 50mm piston seems bigger than the Mugen N1's, the Buddy Clubs, and just about anything else except for the Apex'i N1's which are at 52mm.
