Default Tranny Problems

Yeah, I think this is a problem, but my question is can it be fixed?

Looks like the pin broke and then all went to hell. - Darrell

looks like you need a new front half of case - can't tell from picture if the differential carrier is o.k.

The diff casing is fine aside from the pieces of broken pin on each side which I have already tapped out. But is it safe to use the transmission with that chunk of it missing along the bar there? - Darrell

looks like it is broken in 2 places where the shift arm shaft goes thru the case - not much left to hold the shaft in place - i would just get a different case front half and swap everything over - what transmission is it?

Its a 89 Si tranny. I can get ahold of a 91 LX/DX tranny thats used, would switching to the Si gears be as easy as just mounting the Si Mainshaft/reverse arms/idler arm/gears ect. into the DX transmission? I have the haynes manual, just looking for solid info so I can have this car back on the street by saturday. I'm off Friday/Saturday and I've been driving my 96 DX Coupe beater for almost 3 weeks. - Darrell
